“A good base for exploring”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2013

We used points to pay for this hotel so we were happy to just use it as a base without worrying too much about value for money. The service at the reception desk was good but the room was a little tired in terms of decor, and the view out of the window was of a plain white wall about 6 feet away. Despite that the hotel has a nice relaxed feel to it and seemed welcoming.

The location is within walking distance of the Ladadika restaurant area and quay museum area, and it is possible from there to walk along the front to the White Tower. Maps are available in the reception area. The hotel is on a busy main road with a big hole in it where they are building a metro line. It will be very close to the metro station in 2015! Its about 5 or 6 blocks from the railway station, and the no 78 bus from the airport stops within walking distance from the hotel. All buses are 80 cents or 90 cents if you buy on the bus, or 90 cents / 1 EUR respectively for a two-trip ticket. Day tickets are 4 EUR.

Get off the airport bus at the stop called I.K.A. (not IKEA!), which is after you have been through the town centre. There is a screen and announcements on the bus in English so it is easy to know the stop. When you get off the bus carry on walking in the same direction then take the first right (Oktovriou), then look left at the end, you will see the Holiday Inn sign. To get back to the airport, turn right out of the hotel, walk to the end of the buildings (about 3 blocks) then cross over the main road to the bus stop and wait for a number 78 about every 15-20 mins. There is no info at the bus stops, so it is worth checking the OASTH website before hand.

I often stay in Holiday Inn Thessaloniki, and it is always a pleasure to come back. The stuff are just so friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean and comfort and the bed is so good, I just don't want to get up!

Nice Hotel but the bathroom was a bit small. Previous hotel had tea and coffee facilities in the room but this did not. Food was Ok, typically Greek. The staff were very helpful and friendly but no porterage service was available

As a platinum Priority Club member I have stayed in many Holiday Inns wordwide. Thessaloniki is at best only an average example. Whilst I appreciate that the hotel can do nothing about the disruption from the major building works going on outside the hotel itself was disappointing. Despite being upgraded to a junior suite the room was tired and there were no facilities for coffee or tea, or even drinking water despite the Greek heat. The room was air conditioned but it was very noisy. The hotel in general has clearly seen better days. That said, the room was clean and after failing to find an iron we did have one provided by room service. Overall only an average stay at best.

My wife and I spent 3 nights here. First impressions were not good- the city is in the middle of building an Underground system, and the street outside the hotel is partially dug-up. The good thing is that the City seems to have run out of money so there were no building noises to worry about.
Once you negotiate the building site you enter a very clean and classy hotel lobby- armchairs, a piano (played by a competent pianist in the evenings), bar and restaurant. Checking in was very efficient (even although we were early), and we were upgraded to a large suite on the top floor because of Priority Club membership. The decor in the public areas was very good. Our room was fine too.
We had a problem with the room safe, which Reception quickly sorted for us- with the guy from the front desk coming up.

We dined twice in the hotel restaurant- good quality and attentive service. For breakfast we tended to head to the town centre and a Starbucks. Beware that the pavements/sidewalks around the hotel are narrow in places due to the building works and market stalls.

The hotel is about 20-25 minutes walk from the sea front. We took a taxi one morning and found it very reasonably priced. If you don't mind the distance from the heart of the city then this hotel is a bargain.

The room was big and the bed comfortable. The location of the hotel is very convenient (about 10 min from Aristotelous Square). The breakfast although was not good. Many of the plates were stale and the variety of tea was too small. Something else that annoyed me was that a waiter was eating slinkingly during the breakfast!!

The room was huge and very comfortable with all the necessary facilities. The hotel is located approximately 10 minutes walk from the main hot spots of the town, the white tower and the main touristic roads.
