“best location in Thessaloniki”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

While in Thessaloniki this may I stayed at the Mediterranean Palace. This classic Mediterranean old world style hotel was very charming and comfortable. The rooms were beautifully appointed with some having a nice view of the seaport. The beachfront restaurants and clubs are right outside the front door. The restaurant area is right across the street. All in all I thought it was a great value. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Rooms will either face the sea, or the city.

While the Hotel has a five star rating it certainly did not live up to this standard. Maybe we unlucky in where our room was situated overlooking a street that included an all night Bar.

The clientelle of this bar drank into early morning and satisfed their differences by fighting and shouting outside on the street. This caused a loss of sleep not only for myself and my wife but also for others in our group who were similarly located.

Maybe it is customary in Greece to have all night and rowdy public premises. There was certainly no evidence of any austerity during those early morning drinking sessions.

The staff in the Hotel were very efficient and courteous during our time there and would have changed our rooms id we complained earlier.

When booking in ensure that your room does not overlook the Covert Bar.

Room Tip: Avoid any room overlooking The Covert Bar.

Dear Sir,

We are really sorry that during your stay in the Mediterranean Palace you where so disturbed by the noise of drunk clients of a near-by bar.

Our hotel’s location - in the very heart of Thessaloniki – is considered as one of its main advantages, as it offers our guests very easy access to the actual life of the city (historical sites, restaurants, coffee shops and the water front). It is true that the centers of all large cities around the world are quite noisy. Furthermore Thessaloniki is a very alive city - “a city that never sleeps”.

As you should have noticed all the hotel’s balcony doors are soundproof in order to prevent our guests from been disturbed by the city noises. And for guests that are quite sensitive to noises, there is the option of having them allocated in a room at the back side of the building.
We believe that the noises made by drunk people during improper times of the night are unfortunate incidents (in general) and we hope that, despite this incident you really enjoyed your time in Thessaloniki.

We will be glad to welcome you again in the Mediterranean Palace Hotel– and we will do our best to make your stay impeccable!

This is a decent hotel but hardly a 5* property. It's a bit old and outdated. Rooms are OK, but I would say not on a 5* level - space wise and amenities wise.
Best thing is hotel location. Very centraly, next to many shops, restaurants, cafes... Breakfast is OK. Service was also good.
Couple of things I have to underline as my big remarks:
Indoor swimming pool was closed, as they said, at this time of the season (May). And when is open? In July? Who needs indoor pool in July. If they have told me in advance that pool is not open I would pick another hotel.
Then, underground parking is very narrow. Don't go down there if you are driving a bigger car. Ask reception to park in front of the hotel. Also, going from the garage to the reception is not very easy.
Don't take room that is looking toward restaurants and cafes. You will not be able to sleep untim 5am.

In total - this is not a value for money. You can find better or cheaper options in Thessaloniki.

Room Tip: Take higher floor and sea view!

Dear Sir / Madam,

We are really sorry about the dissatisfaction you felt during your stay in the Mediterranean Palace hotel, because the indoor swimming pool was not accessible.

There are technical failures are above human control, and happen no matter of seasonality. And it was a major technical failure that made it necessary for us – and for the safety of the hotel guests – to keep the swimming pool out of use for a few days until we were sure that it can once again be safely operated. Unfortunately there is not any way that we can keep our client informed in advance about such problems that suddenly occur.

Furthermore, we assume that you drive quite a big car so that you found it not very easy to move in our underground parking. However we would have been glad to have helped you; the parking guard and the bell boys are all well trained drivers and they can pick your car at the entrance of the hotel in order to park it safely in the underground parking.

The hotel’s location in the center of Thessaloniki is considered as one of its most valuable advantages. It is true that city centers all over the world are quite crowded and noisy. We have taken care of our guests by putting soundproof balcony door in all of our rooms. And of course there are rooms located at the back side of the building for those who are more sensitive in noise.

We will be glad to welcome you again in the Mediterranean Palace Hotel– and we will do our best to make your stay impeccable!

I celebrated New Year's Eve at Mediterranean Palace and the organisation was extremely good. What should be mentioned is the size of the hotel- rooms and restaurants are not so big, the spa as well. However, the luxury furniture makes your stay even more comfortable, together with the service in the restaurant. The food was more delicious and at good quality- I strongly recommend the hotel for your visit in Thessaloniki!

This hotel is a combination of luxury and comfort. It is located in the downtown of Thessaloniki. It is opposite to the touristic port of the city. It has own under ground parking, large halls for wedding parties and seminars, amazing restaurant with european cuisine and bar.

Overall, a rather dated-looking room, perhaps in need of a little TLC. That said, it was comfortable and quite adequate for a couple of nights.

Hotel itself isn't actually that old according to the receptionist. All staff very helpful

Location is minutes away from the lively center of Thessaloniki. Bars, clubs and restaurants are just across the road!

Sea view is not the best I have seen in Greece. This is because this isn't really a tourist location. Nearest nice beeches are around one hour away.

Room Tip: Lift takes for every to move so pick a low floor unless you want a view!

I stayed in a deluxe room with sea views for four nights. The location is fine: not as central as some other hotels in this range but within a 5 minute walk to the many restaurants in the Ladadika area and a 10-15 minute walk along the seafront to the White Tower. The hotel is classified as five star, but if you adjust your expectations to a 3.5 star, you will not be disappointed. It is perfectly comfortable but dated in decor, with faux antique furniture in the reasonably spacious rooms, and is pretty unmemorable. After looking at photos of stylish rooms in higher- ranked hotels in the city centre, I can see they have a battle on their hands to compete. Possibly as a result, there seemed to be a number of large groups of teenagers on package tours staying while I was there, which led to some noise in the evening at times. On the plus side, the room was comfortable with mini-bar, bathrobes, hair dryer, but there were no ironing nor drink making facilities in the room. A few niggles such as non-functioning telephones, temperamental door swipe card and mysterious air con settings but when problems were notified to staff, they were swiftly addressed. The breakfast had an abundance of sweet and savoury options and the common spaces were comfortable. Overall, a good option if at the right price.
