Aegean Melathron Thalasso Spa Hotel
Ranked #3 of 11 Hotels in Kallithea
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 11, 2012

Aegean is the average 3+- 4star hotel for rooms and service quality. It is located within 10min of drive from a cute town Kallithea and 70km away from Thessaloniki. It is easy to rent a car at the hotel or neaby (would cost less) or take a bus ( a bus stop is right in front of the hotel) to explore the Kassandra peninsula towns and visit Thessaloniki. My friend and I stayed there from Oct 3rd till Oct 11 after the season was offficially closed on Oct 1. All of the nearby hotels got closed already and the coast line was amazingly people free after walking 100m from the hotel beach - it felt like the beach is all ours :) . Would recommend for a week or a 10day quite peaceful holiday for a relaxing vacation for a family or a couple.

Room Tip: See view rooms are the best choice. Pool view rooms are a bit cheaper but are further from the beach...

We stayed at the Aegean Melathron Hotel at the end of September 2012 and we had a truly wonderful time. We had a junior suite with a separate lounge area, two tvs and two bathrooms. The balcony had amazing views of four of the many sea water swimming pools. The landscaping and attention to detail in the architecture was a delight.
The season was drawing to a close and the hotel was quieter than during the peak summer season but every pool bar and restaurant was open and fully functional.
The staff were welcoming and friendly and couldn't do enough for you to make your stay special.
The beach was busy and you do have to pay 7 euros for a sun lounger but the hotel provides beach towels and the adjoining sections of the beach are much quieter and more pleasant. The sea was perfectly clear and clean and great for spotting fish in the shallow waters.
Meals are buffet style and have a wide selection of interesting dishes. There are themed nights serving certain foods and it was easy to find something tasty to eat.
The photograph on the Thomas Cook website really does not do this hotel justice. The small collections of rooms in interestingly designed blocks were absolutely wonderful and seemed well thought out.
Overall we were very impressed with this hotel and would definitely recommend it to others.

So this is a typical greek 5* which in the rest of the world translates to an average 3*. This is mostly and painfully true to the room which is so basic that you want to go crazy that you paid over 200eur/night for it.
The breakfast is ok and dinner has a good varaity but the taste of it all is average so you can eat it but you don't really love it which again you should be able to do for that price.
There are plenty of pools and they are ok. The beach is nice, with nice sand and shallow warm waters so perfect for children.
But then another thing which I cannot belive is that on top of already over charging they do not feel ashamed to charge additional 7 euro/day for the sunbeds on the beach...simply discusting what the greed can do to places and people. And on top of that, the promised wireless internet available everywhere is available nowhere!!!
So if they reduced the price to some 75 eur/night I might consider returning again as this is how much it is worth at this moment with that poor room standard, no internet and average food.
If you go make sure to stay in the rooms below the main road as otherwise you will have to walk a lot to and from the beach.

From my point of view it is a good 4 star hotel. I like the sand beach with clear water, large and well-groomed territory, rich and tasty breakfasts. As for the service, it is normal, but not excellent. For example, at the restaurant in the evening you will wait the waiter for a long time. Some managers at the reception are not very polite and fast. The service at Spa is very good, the quality of massage and other procedures was not ideal, although OK for Greece. By the way there are a lot of children at the hotel. The animation for adults is rather small.

We ended our holiday in this hotel, spend only few days but enough to relax.
Junior suite, pool view, that we booked was very nice just as we expected.
Hotel staff was nice and friendly although they had a big crowd.
Food is very nice, we had HB, but there is a lot of options for lunch in hotel
restaurants and the prices are ok. Beach is beautiful but you have to pay extra for sunbeds.
One tip-choose the room in the sea area, it looks better and the beach is near.

Room Tip: sea view, under the road

From the 1 of July to the 19 th of July 2012 we had a fantastic rest in a Melathron hotel.
If you want to relax, to enjoy clean sea water, to walk along the beach, to watch picturesque gardens full of bright flowers – this place is for you. There are 9 pools, seven of them with sea water, on the territory of the hotel. The territory is spacious, green and always clean, and you feel as if you are in a private English park. The hotel is very quiet, without any night life. Even the children do not irritate.
The food in the restaurants is various, fresh and well-prepared. The staff is quick, helpful, and very friendly.
We were greatly impressed by the high level of Spa facilities and had some messages and face treatments there, and prices are quite reasonable.
If you want to have a look at the nearby villages Afytos and Kallithea take a taxi ( 5 – 10 euros) and enjoy a typical Greek atmosphere of rest and slow life. There are many cafes and taverns there where you can try delicious seafood and Greek wines.
We recommend to visit a market in Kassandria on Tuesdays (10 euros by taxi). Fresh fruits, Greek cheeses, spices, wines, olive oils and different olives and other traditional things.
You can order a taxi at the reception, but remember that you have to wait for 10 – 30 minutes because many people of the hotel hire taxis to go to some places especially in the morning.
If you need to buy some wines or water or juices or fruits you must go the nearest supermarket – 50 meters from the hotel building.
Many thanks to the hotel administration to every member of the staff team for our pleasant lazy vocation, new impressions, and nice memories. We hope to come back to this hotel next summer.
