Nostos hotel, is a pleasant contradiction: All the facilities you would expect from a large hotel, with the cosy friendliness of a family run Bed & Breakfast. We just spent a little over two weeks there (two adults and three children aged 18, 16 and 11), and we all had an excellent time.

The hotel is located between Afitos (or Athitos locally) and Kalithea, with very clear signage from both directions of the main road traversing the Kassandra peninsula. Just over an hour's drive from Thessaloniki airport. There is sufficient car parking on site, although it tends to get full late at night. The main road, the hotel and its surrounds are situated high on a hill, with great views. There is a walking path from the hotel down to the local beach, with steps meandering through the pine trees, but be warned that it is quite steep and can be quite tiring to climb back up in the middle of the day when the sun is hot. Once down, you can easily walk over the rocks to Kalithea beach. By car, you can reach Kalithea or Athitos beaches within 5 minutes, or drive a little further north to Nea Fokaia or Nea Poteidaia. If you feel more adventurous, there is a large water park (Waterland.gr) about an hour's drive away, close to Thessaloniki airport.

In terms of facilities, the hotel is superbly equipped. Clean, well maintained and furnished, with the rooms serviced daily. The rooms have a little fridge and tea/coffee making equipment, air conditioning, a safe, and extra towels are provided for the pool. The outdoor pool is large, clean and welcoming with plenty of loungers and umbrellas around it. The bar/restaurant is right next to the pool and offers food and drink throughout the day. Surprisingly, for a hotel restaurant, the food quality and variety is excellent and the prices very reasonable. Even though we were not booked as halfboard, we had about half our holiday meals there, just because of the convenience and the superb food. Breakfast is a particular treat: Even though officially termed as 'continental', it's not your boring jam and corn-flakes affair! There is a lot of variety and every day there is always a special treat (mini cheese and spinach pies, pancakes, eggy-bread, scrambled egg with sausages, etc.) as well as plenty of fresh fruit and salad. Well worth including it to the overall price, and the 10am finish time encourages the teenagers to get out of bed in time ;-) The hotel has beautiful lawn and gardens all around, including fruit trees which often provide fresh fruit for breakfast. (figs, pears, apples, pommegranate, etc.)

There are other facilities such as an indoor pool, gym, sauna, pool table, tv games, etc. but, frankly, with the sun shining outside we made very little use of them. There is free WiFi around the hotel, although we had very weak signal inside our room. Signal strength was ok on our patio and very good as you got line-of-sight to the reception area.

One thing that makes this hotel unique, is the staff. Makis and Helen who own the hotel (and Makis's parents who support them) are extremely helpful and accommodating. A simple example of the quality of service provided: even though we booked two double rooms with an extra bed online, through Booking.com, Helen made a point of ringing us the next morning, to confirm exactly what we needed. We found all the staff in the hotel to be extremely polite and pleasant. After a few days you get to know most of them, and they know you and make you feel like part of their family. Special mention goes to the guys and girls at the bar/restaurant, who were just excellent!

All in all, an excellent hotel with friendly staff and great food. We had a great time there and we would heartily recommended it!

I chose this place because of its high ranking on tripadvisor.

The neat thing about the location of this place is the scenery from the restaurant - beautiful tall trees and in the distance: the sea. The bad thing about this location is that it is quite close to the highway (which may actually be a positive for someone else).

There is private access to the beach, but unfortunately, it's not really a proper beach (small, no shade, and simply not maintained as a beach). There is a near by beach - a bit of a walk - but we simply drove to other beaches.

The food was fine - I liked the yoghurt - the dinner was average and we opted to eat elsewhere thereafter.

The staff are incredibly nice and helpful. A 5/5. They recommended a great beach and were very helpful.

The room was average size. The beds were two single beds put together - which seems to be the practice in many places, but it's not something that I am into. I did not request another room and/or a different bed option. There was no shampoo/conditioner/body wash. There is soap and a hairdryer. Upon request, I was given a shampoo/conditioner to use, which was appreciated. The shower has a curtain which isn't as nice as having the doors (because it is a small shower it's not very roomy/comfortable).

I realize my review doesn't make it sound the place that great - but overall it was totally fine. There are other places in Greece I would probably enjoy more, but it wouldn't be an issue (at all) to come back. Perhaps families would appreciate this place more - there is a small section next to the pool for kids to play. The pool also looks nice (although I did not swim in it).

Extremely well run hotel.....clean and very friendly, both staff and fellow guests. Stunning views of Aegean through the trees from restaurant. Food excellent and VFM, we took the halfboard option which worked out much cheaper than eating out we think....you even get a drink from the bar! Pool really nice, spotlessly clean, never any trouble getting a lounger. Would describe as quiet and rekaxing, but there is a games room with pool table, xbox, pc/internet + plenty to do in area, we took a boat trip from nearby Hanioti for example, there is also stuff for kids/teens in Kallithea, jet skii, go kart etc. I also enjoyed snorkelling from small hotel beach, easy walk down and some good exercise back!! Kallithea town is a short stroll away on the flat, with steep hill down to beach, quite crowded during our stay. It has all the essentials ie. bank, chemist, supermarket, laundrette, newsagent etc. Afitos has more of the traditional Greek charm, would recommend the 5 euro taxi ride for the trip back in the dark. Room was modern with good a/c, shower, fridge, safe and comfortable bed, with nice view over countryside, there are a dozen or so with really nice view over pool and sea. We booked directly, with Helen taking care of everything via email including airport transfer. Would thoroughly recommend, have holidayed in Greece many times over the years and this tops them all.

Second visit, relaxing tranquil hotel, well kept, very clean, staff attentive and genuinely caring! Rooms look out over the trees to the sea, gardens are manicured and well kept. Adult only is just that - quiet staffed - peaceful! Would I recommend this hotel, yes but wouldn't want to spoil it for us regular returners! Thanks Helen, Makis and gang!

Hotel Nostos is well maintained property with all necessities and a couple of things above that. I absolutely loved staff dedication to take care of every little thing in the property areas.

We stayed (2 adults and one 5 year old) in a double room with additional "bed", if it can be called so and were quite happy with our accommodation. Everything in place, all things working, nicely furnished and well maintained. Pool is excellent, restaurant 3 out of 5 but food is quite nicely prepared and fresh. Pool Bar is also quite good. Hotel premises are quiet and lovely, lots of grass, flowers and trees. There's also an indoor pool and the jacuzzi.

Breakfast is boring, every morning the same, except for the friday's pancakes, so if you are a huge breakfast adventurer find yourself another hotel.

Location is quite disputable and depends on the taste. Nearest beach is Kalithea some 1000m away but part of the road is very, very steep (some 300m). But, it also has it's advantages like a distance from "Chinese - Greek" Kalithea crowd and circus. If you go by foot to Kalithea or Afitos (which is quite far) bring a flashlight, road is risky at night. Hotel does not have it's beach but there's a staircase to the shore also quite steep and tons of rocks in the end of the path.

Our conclusion:
Hotel is lovely, location not really. Kalithea is super crowded in the season and ULTRA crowded during the weekend and moving around the town or the beach requires a lots of patience. Afitos is not near at all, but they still advertise the hotel to be an Afitos property. Btw, Afitos is a lovely little place in a true greek manner but not as attractive to the tourists as the flashing, plasticky Kalithea.

Room Tip: If possible choose a room on the ground floor, that way you'll have immediate access to the lovely yard and you won't be needing A/C. Avoid driving friday noon through monday morning because you'll need 30 mins for 500m.
