Lovely beach, fabulous water surrounded by white cliffs (just like the pictures show). Umbrellas for lease in high season (July/August?!) so if you do hike, there's no need to bring umbrellas....

The hike (about :40-:45min.) starts past the port in Vassiliki (just follow the port's parking lot up the hill on the main asphalted road that overlooks the two small beaches to the left as you face the water), and is mostly packed dirt, coastal and shaded here and there. Lovely and scenic but presents w/some up/down hills that may prove tricky for the less fit. If you are able to do it, however it is well worth it (see pics)....

If you're not feeling adventurous, or if your unable to make the hike, no worries, the ferry from Vassiliki has regular drop off/pick up hours in high season :-)...

I gave the site 4 and not five stars for one reason (and I hope the powers that be see this post and remedy the situation): At the end of the :45 lovely and scenic walk, to the left of the stairs leading down to the beach was a pile of trash (rubbish)!! The infamous plastic bags, bottles, cookies, diapers etc... An attraction of this caliber should be tended to w/a little more TLC, even if it is private individuals who take the initiative (the chair-leasing folks for example)... A simple trash bin emptied daily (or as needed) would def. do the trick.... The city which advertises this beautiful attraction really should address this shameful issue...

Other than that, it's a beautiful spot, well worth going. I did it in the late afternoon and the lighting on the hike and the water were unforgettable.

PS- It wasn't particularly crowded when I went (as it was later in the afternoon), but considering this is a smaller beach (and closed in on both sides by cliffs), I imagine it could get crowded :).... One more thing, make sure to bring water!

Hope this helps :) KS

Crystal clear waters ,it's like being in a natural swimming pool. Not very big as a beach and you can visit it by taxi boat or on foot.

This small beach is amazing, only various sizes of white rocks! Water is so turquoise here, quite steep beach though. Loved this beach, but since it is quite small, it can get really crowded. Worth a visit anyway, we came by a boat trip, convenient, no fuss with parking and climbing.

When visiting Lefkada most people either stay on the East coast near the resort towns of Nikiana and Nidri and make do with the perfectly lovely but sedate pebbly beaches or head over to the much more scenic beaches on the West coast to take in the magnificent views and idyllic settings of Egremni and Porto Katsiki beaches. Unfortunately in recent years both those beaches have become a victim of their own successes. Egremni, however stunning to look at on the descent to the beach to it is totally ruined for me by the dreadful cod reggae music blaring over the beach by the people who run a small refreshment hut at the bottom of the ardous 350 steps. Porto Katsiki is ruined simply by the amount of people packed onto its narrow sand strip with people jostling for space and the huge amounts of people dumped by the visiting Cruise ships at varying points throughout the day. AgioFili however is much quieter due to its isolated position and is only reachable by boat, or if your feeling brave a narrow dirt track that will take a car 3/4 of the way towards the beach, with the last ten or fifteen minutes by foot arriving on top of a stunning rock outcrop jutting into the bay with a relatively easy 40 or 50 steps down onto the beach. For the more adventerous you can take a quad bike right to the top of the outcrop and simply saunter down the steps taking in the view. The right hand side of the beach is hemmed in by a large wall of rock and makes for excellent snorkling for children and adults alike with vast amounts of fish and even the odd octopus if you know where to look! half way up the outcrop, a good 10 or 15 metres youll see people with more guts than ill ever have diving and jumping into the sea and is ideal for people seeking a thrill. The left side of the beach is simply great if you want to lie on the white coarse sand/pebble mix and due to its position gets the sun from near enough first thing in the morning to 6 or 7 at night. The sea here is crystal clear and on most occasions when ive visited been relatively calm given its position which opens out into the open sea. Even when the sea is rougher the swell isnt too bad (Egremni and Porto Katsiki, indeed all the beaches on the west coast can get too rough to comfortably swim at times) making it a safer option if you have children. As another reviewer has stated the only downsides to this wonderful beach is that theres nothing really in the way of amenties there. A guy sells drinks but not much else and if you take the option to visit by boat from Nidri or Vassiliki once you are dropped off on the beach you are pretty much bound to stay till the boats come back (which is usually hourly) and sometimes theres no guarantee the boat wont be full on the return meaning some of you end up staying longer than youd like if your not bolshy enough to push infront of queue. Overall its a much quieter beach than those of the West coast, and unless the sea is rough it doesnt suffer from having the big cruise ships depositing a couple of hundred people overcrowding the place. On a final note i will say i was very impressed by the smaller water taxi which enabled disabled visitors to access the beach, both this year and last year saw a couple of people in wheelchairs being lifted off and assisted onto the beach so top marks there!!!

It cannot be even compared with the beaches on the west side of the island. Good for camping but the beach is dirty and having in mind that Kathisma is only about 5 km to it doesn't worth.
