“Good food and a great welcome.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2013

We've been coming to the Katoghi for a couple of years now, but only just got round to writing a review. Very tardy of us! Because it's great. Set high up in the hills, so a bit cooler in the heat of summer, this taverna is a little gem. A mixture of Greek and British food, freshly prepared and cooked by Alison, you can stop by for a light lunch or opt to have a main meal. Peter, who does the meet and greet, serving etc makes you feel very welcome and if help is needed with the menu and choosing what to order, he's your man. On this occasion my daughter and I stopped for a snack and chose the courgette and feta fritters, tsatiki and Greek salad. All full of flavour and delicious. The drive up to Vafkeri from Nidri is a lovely trip and you get great views out to sea towards Scorpios and Meganissi, especially on the way down. They also open through the winter and have a great open fire.

“Great food and view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2013

The place is a hidden gem, it is worth driving from any spot on the island. The village of Vafkeri is about 1000m above the sea level and has great views. There are almost no people in the village, it's like a ghost town, you'll find The Kathogi in absolute tranquility. Peter is a great host and provided us with a good table even though we've had no reservation (the place has only 5-6 tables outside). Food was great, wine as well and we'll defenietly return to this absolute paradise one day.

“Oh, that pudding! :-)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2013

We originally planned to lunch here after driving from Agios Nikitas on the way to the waterfalls at Nidri, but we hadn't realised they close on Mondays (Peter and Alison's well-deserved day off). When we did finally get there, though, we weren't disappointed. Great view, great service, great value, and (above all) great food. We booked on the spot for a farewell dinner on our last evening. Favourites: the courgette and feta fritters starter, and the to-die-for chocolate and whisky pudding. The main courses were excellent as well, of course.
