I have chosen t'Aloni because -- after doing some research on the internet -- it seemed to be a nice, family run guest house, ideal for us to stay while in Lefkada. I knew from reviews that the family that runs the place is friendly, but even so, I was astonished to see the level of dedication and the exceptional hospitality of our hosts.
No wonder everyone who stays there once, wants to go back again. Teo and his parents Tina and Nikos make friends quite naturally and many returning guests have become friends of the family.
The whole guest house is built and decorated in exceptionally good taste and it really adds to the experience. From the mirror frame to the color of the table cloth everything is in harmony. The room we stayed in had a beautiful view and it was just great to sit down on the balcony at the end of the day and enjoy the peaceful landscape -- mostly in the company of a couple of beers.
Food was just great. Tina does wonder in the kitchen and a smaller selection of freshly made delicious food is always available. Without exception all the food she prepared tasted just great, my favorite being moussaka. My wife goes as far as to say that the rabbit alone was worth the trip to Chortata.
The most picturesque sea shores on the island (and probably Greece) are not very far away from Chortata: in 15-20 minutes you can be at any of the marvelous beaches on the west coast. Also, if you want to eat sea food, there is a great selection of restaurants in Vassiliki, a harbor town to the south, a 15 minutes drive away. (There is no sea food on t'Aloni's menu, although Teo will arrange it for you if you ask.)
We spent an unforgettable week in Greece thanks to the good weather, the beautiful island, nice room, delicious food and most importantly because of the warmhearted family at t'Aloni.
