“We Had a Great Holiday”
Reviewed June 10, 2011

My partner and I have just returned from a two week holiday at the Annaliza and we thought it excellent value for money.

The rooms are basic but clean (cleaners clean every day except Sunday). The cooking facilities are minimal but if you're like me and don't go on holiday to cook (all I used was the kettle!!) then it's fine.

The staff are very friendly and always there to help and I'd like to thank George, Dimitri, Mel and Manolis for such an enjoyable stay ............where's your dog Dimitri?!

We used the Annaliza as a base to explore the whole Island of Corfu. It's pretty central and an in ideal location for travelling to anywhere else on the Island. If you like walking you don't have to travel there's some lovely walks in and around Pirgi, it's lovely up in the hills in amongst the olive groves. Agios Markos (about 2km walk) is lovely and has a little outside cafe/bar with an excellent view point. Well worth the climb!!

I would certainly recommend the Annaliza, as far as I'm concerned you get exactly what you pay for (and a little bit more). If you really want and expect 4 star accommodation (as 4 star is defined in the UK) then you should expect to pay at least triple the price you pay for the Annaliza.

We had a great time and would definately go back again.

People originally go to the aparments thinking that its a decent price for a 4 star apartment, little do we know is that there will be extra unnecessary charges such as paying for the air conditioning for the room. The safety lockers are in the lobby which are of horrible quality and there are no staff around to moniter them. The staff themselves need a serious course on customer service except Traci and the cook. The staff treat you like your in a detention centre such as telling you to be quiet when ur swimming in the pool in the late afternoon and at early into the night when your socialising. The cleaners are friendly but they do not clean the rooms efficiently. The toilets need to be flushed many times to be completely clean. When in the shower, the water always pours onto the floor. Take your own bath mat. The kitchen itself has no toaster so take your own. The appalling thing is that there is an open space between the kitchen and one of the bedrooms so you can't have your privacy. There isn't enough closet space either. In addition, 4 of us sprained our necks whilst sleeping on the mattress and the pillows. The location of the apartments is actually good. The beach is 5 mins away and so is the supermarket where you can get everything from milk and vegetables to sunscreen lotions and there's an even bigger supermarket on the mainroad where you can get clothes, footwear and gifts along with restaurants. Calypso restaurant had brilliant food and quick service. The nightlife there is pretty dry and you need to have a big group to make your own fun. Overall, the apartmemts are ideal for couples and maybe the elderly but not for families or a group of friends. Finally, if it wasn't for traci, i wouldn't recommed anyone to go there.

I would like to point out that the official rating of the Annaliza is a 2/3 star Apart/Hotel, it is the tour operators that decide on what star they wish to give and I can assure you that we are not paid 4 star prices. All our accommodation are one bedroomed apartments with a living area consisting of two sofa beds, probably not ideal for 4 adults which I believe was the case for yourselves.

Just returned from 2 weeks here and quite glad to be home. Lack of sleep was a problem because the beds are terrible and there is so much noise all night from outside. The beach was awful, just stones and cost €7 to get beds, so we had to sat around the pool, only to discover there were RATS running around, even during the day! Yuck!Tried to use the oven in our kitchen and both got electric shocks! Bathroom flooded every time we showered. Towels and bedding changed 3 times.
The Greek economy is in a bad way so everything is very expensive just now, especially in Corfu town, which is a total rip-off. Pirgi and Ipsos had many premises closed down.

My wife, 2 children (6 & 4) and I stayed in the Annaliza in July 2010. On first impressions the apartments are well situated just 2 minutes walk from the main front, leaving them accessible but well away from the noise.

On arrival, (at midnight) my wife was asked to hand over her passport for paperwork (?) which was a bit unusual, but it was returned without fuss the next day.

The apartment was decent 3 * Greek accom. Nice and clean enough, right next to the pool (room 105), however the cooking facilites were non existent. Big fridge, but you would only use it for water/beer/juice. The beds were creaky, but not uncomfortable. The cleaners were in every day and the bedding changed twice in the week we were there.

Also got to try my hand at fixing some Greek plumbing as the cistern was broken... Not an experience you'd want to repeat...

The staff were very friendly and helpful (thanks Giorgios and Tracey!) however the prices take a bit of getting used to... It seems the days of cheap beer and food in Greece have gone forever, or they certainly have at the Annaliza!! The food was quite good though, the rich continental particularly.

There was an issue with the kids going to the toilet. As they were asked not to drip water on the tiles between the pool as it made them treacherous, we had to dry them off every time they wanted to go, which seemed a bit OTT... however, it was resolved quickly enough by putting them over the balcony into our room instead. Not very handy if you have a 1st floor room though...

Lastly, don't waste time walking a mile and a half up the front looking for some decent grub, the pizzeria across the road is probably as good as any around. Of course we discovered this the night before we left!

Thank you for your positive comments, however, regarding the Annaliza being expensive for food and drink, I wouldn't say that 2 Euro/1.60 pounds for a pint of local beer and 3 Euro/2.40 pounds for a pint of Amstel is expensive and the rich continental breakfast which included tea or coffee, toast, fresh bread, jam, butter, ham, cheese, boiled egg, yoghurt & honey at 4.50 Euro/3.60 pounds is also not expensive.

just returned from corfu staying at annaliza apartments i had read a review before our holiday and it said once you get over the shock when you open your room door was quite true but it is only the dark wood of the furniture, bed frame, window frames and shutters that give it an old appearance, the beds may be a bit creaky but they are not uncomfortable, once you open the shutters and let the beautiful sunshine in it looks a different place. The staff are excellent nothing was too much trouble. especially the bar staff. Breakfast and snacks very good. Try greek corner for a delicious evening meal beef stifado excellent .

Just returned from a 2 week vacation at the Annaliza. 7 of us travelled, 4 adults and 3 kids (8, 9 and 13). Hotel rooms are large and basic and once you get over the initial shock they aren't too bad. Do not expect 4 star luxury. Ask for a pool view as the rooms at the back of the hotel are smaller and have a garden view which is not as nice. Rooms are very clean with maid service every day. Pool area is lovely and relaxing, easy to get a sun bed. Bar serves good food until 5pm and there is a happy hour from 6pm til 8pm. Drinks are quite expensive 3euro for a large beer, 2euro for glass of wine, 2euro for soft drink. What makes the hotel is the staff - the owners Manoilis and Mel are very friendly as are Irene and George. George makes nice cocktails and my wife tells me the best Irish Cofffee she has ever had. Ipsos on the other hand is rather run down with lots of bars and restaurants closed down. The beach is rather dirty and is stoney. Sea is nice to swim in. Resort is more geared up for Italians (especially in August) and has little to keep children occupied. Best places to eat are Phevos on the main strip, Bonitas (just right out of the Hotel) and Greek Corner (left out of the hotel and 5mins up the road). Greek Corner was our favourite. Typical meal for 4 with drinks cost about 50euros. DO NOT GO TO THE GRILL HOUSE UP THE HILL. It was recommended to us but the waitress is miserable and the food is poor. Best bar was Dirty Nellies, the bar staff were fab and kept our girls entertained. Best parts of the holiday - Gregories Boat Trip, Aqualand (beware of the waves if you have young kids) and walking up the hill to the Panorama Bar. Ask Mel for a map I drew to help you find it, the views are fantastic. Enjoy your holiday at the Annaliza.

Hotel was ok, defo not a 4*, more like a 2.5*. It was clean but in need of some tlc. The rooms were very spacious and serviced regularly but were a bit rough around the edges e.g. shower curtain not fitting, tv only had 2 foreign channels, basic kitchen. Staff were great and very friendly. Food and cocktails from the bar were excellent.
Ipsos itself was deserted - we were told this was due to the time we went (end august / beginning sept) but it was apparant that the resort has had better days. Good bars and restaurants with great local foods. Not being busy we were easily remembered by all of the bar staff and given free shots etc throughout the week.
Very relaxing holiday and ideal for a quiet get away.
