“Old style hotel with wonderful roof terrace”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

The Cavalieri will not feature in your search of Corfu town hotels initially because it is not on the mainstream holiday agencies' lists. Good for you then the independent traveller!
If you really feel adventurous you can walk to the hotel from the airport, a journey of around 2km. We took a taxi at a cost of 8 euro, for a 10 minute journey, it was mid July and 35C.
The hotel is in a great position on the Spianada a tree lined area in front of the hotel leading to the coast and a band stand(!). It's 3 mins walk from the lovely town centre and the cricket pitch by the Liston, in whose arches you can sit and watch the world go by.
Yes the hotel is not a modern chain 'filing cabinet', where you could awake and wonder which city you are in. This is an individual place for the intrepid.
Get a corner room facing the Ionian sea and be rewarded, but specify this at the booking stage.
Some rooms are quirky and on two levels, Corfiot style. Quite dangerous if you jump out of bed disorientated. But these are minor things when you have the opportunity to go up in the tiny Parisian style lift to floor 6 and step out onto the open roof terrace.
You are greeted by a dry warm breeze and a sight to behold, All of Corfu town spread around you, and a super view over the Ionian. Come up early evening and enjoy a drink watching the clouds of screaming Alpine Swifts cutting arcs across the sky. Meals are basic up top, but that's not why you are here. Service was cheery and efficient, similar to reception who proved more than helpful when needed.
The Cavalieri is a great base for a long city break in a most underrated city. Get an official city guide as we did (check out Irini tourist guide) and really discover this wonderful place.

Then retire to the Cavalieri for a late rooftop tipple.

Room Tip: Specify a corner room with sea view

Our dark room was too small for 4 with no view (on a small dark alley). It was a kind of duplex not convenient for 4 persons . We would rather prefer to get inter-connected rooms as mentionned in hotel description, but when I asked, the check-in lady told me that the hotel has NO interconnected-rooms ???
This hotel must be renovated. Old furniture, it is too dated and the charm does not operate anymore, sorry. Bathroom must improve, it is not acceptable for a 4 stars hotel (bathtube groutings are dirty, basic shower curtain, flush refill takes one hour !) . Very noisy A/C (could not set it correctly) , we had poor sleep. The hotel is also noisy (elevator, doors etc...), skimpy and there is bad smell at the lobby entry.
Check-in & check-out was not very friendly. It seems that you are disturbing the employees. It is the first time we experienced that in Greece (we spent our holidays in Greece every year), very strange.
Breakfast was good, but again the employees were not smiling at all very very strange.
Fortunately, the top-roof is magic ! Having a drink or dinner while sun sets is awesome. Waiters were friendly, thanks to them.
I guess we pay for the location and only for it, it is a real pity...

3 night stay..... Great location, very friendly and helpful staff... Wonderful terrace with beautiful view. Good sized rooms with aircon... Would recommend and stay again. Great selection at breakfast both hot and cold and the yoghurt and honey is a must.

Hotel is just very close to Corfu old town center and the view on its roof is wonderful.
Hotel is very old, and bathrooms are in terrible condition. you can not turn around in bathroom without touching a surface, even the door in my room was not fully operating.

Reception is always busy and you have to wait always before asking anything. Breakfast is also very poor so if you have the option avoid breakfast and pay less.
Most of the rooms do not have any view and they look to the wall of next building.

Room Tip: only good rooms are in the front of hotel with the seview.

I have stayed here before, while working. As it was in the winter months, the roof top restaurant was closed. This should remain a secret, but the roof top area of the hotel is wonderful during the Spring & Summer. We arrived just for a drink to watch the sun go down. The views can not be described. We arranged a booking for dinner two days later.

Not a cheap option but well worth it for the views and the "special" breeze. We shared a starter of smoked salmon, I had a steak and my wife pork. As the name of the hotel might suggest the food theme is Italian. A very high standard. We went back again for drinks while on route elsewhere & were greeted like long-lost friends. Careful how you order, this can be expensive. It was the highlight of our holiday and the views alone are worth it! Early evening they don't mind visitors just turning up, to take photographs. Well worth checking this hotel out but it can get very busy.

Room Tip: Chat to the waiters & the bar people on the roof top restaurant. You get a better table! Don'...

Several friends and I stayed here in July, and had a great experience at this property. The service at checkin and check out was fantastic. The staff provided us with great restaurant recommendations, going so far as to even call a restaurant in advance to send someone out to the street to guide us to the place. The room was incredibly spacious for three adults (loft-style). The rooftop terrace is a must for dinner and evening cocktails over looking the old town. But the service is really star here. The man at check out prepared us with coffee and food at 5am, well before breakfast was scheduled, just so we wouldn't be hungry at the airport. Above and beyond what's expected, and thats's why I would stay here again.

Very helpful and friendly staff, good breakfast, very good location for exploring Corfu town on foot. Nice clean room with a spacious well-appointed bathroom. A little noisy, but to be expected with a city location. Would recommend.
