Had to respond to HotAirships recent review and to the comments. 1. We manage the walk to and from the beach without being 'fit hikers' - we're in our 50's!. ". 2. Every room I've stayed in in Greece has had a rough artex finish - the hotel decor is on a par with any Greek standard range hotel. I have never had a problem with paint flaking into my 'G & T' at the Maria Anna! 3.The bathrooms are in the process of being updated, although they are not exactly falling to bits! Due to the recession, repairs have to made when cash is available. 4. In all the years that I've stayed at the hotel I have never smelt anything other than the wonderful aromas of cooking from the kitchen. 5. Most Greek hotels serve simple continental breakfasts, but the Maria Anna goes that little bit further and offers fresh eggs served in a choice of ways - you can never please everyone though, can you? 6. I don't understand how giving a free meal to guests can be a 'ruse' - no-one is forced to have the free meal or to stay on and spend money at the bar; it is simply the hotels way of welcoming guests and to help break the ice between them. I cannot believe for one moment that the same moussaka was being served a week later - the hotel staff are very proud of their food and of its quality. 7. Yes, Jenny has been working very hard at the hotel. What a strange thing to complain about?!...you want to see someone else's face for a change! Perhaps she should spend some her hard earned money employing another staff member for you to look at? Gregori and Peter are usually very friendly, happy people, they always have a friendly word and smile - they also work extremely hard. 8. The hotel is owned by Jenny and Gregori - Olympic have a contract with the hotel and are therefore the ones who sell the rooms. 9. The guests at the Maria Anna are not 'prisoners' and actually resent being labelled as such! Personally, when there, we use our feet or local buses as we do not drive, returning to the hotel when we wish to. We are more than happy with the choice of restaurants available in the area that are within walking distance.By thw way, it quite clearly states on Trip Advisor reviews that a car is recommended, perhaps HotAirship should have read that first! 10. We have never had a problem finding an available sunbed by the pool, no matter what time we go there. 11. This mention of 'derelict buildings' - would that be the shop and restaurant that recently closed nearby? I remind you again that Greece is in the middle of a massive recession - closures cannot be controlled by the Maria Anna! 10. As to the comment about a 'gauntlet of establishments all clamouring for tourists' Euro's' - ??? these people own businesses and of course want you to spend your money; its called commerce and its how trade works. The words 'gauntlet' and 'clamouring' are excessive - it is a village street, and customers go into the shops; the vendors do not come out trying to persuade people into their shops, as they do in some countries. I think that I have managed to cover all of the areas where I feel that HotAirship has made inaccurate and pedantic remarks. I have once again returned from a wonderful 2 weeks at the Maria Anna, and will continue to return to my island paradise each year.
