We were really looking forward to returning to The Gonatas and again we had an amazing time.
The staff work so hard to make your stay special. We had delicious lunches here everyday and enjoyed sitting and relaxing around the pool.
We also hired a car and explored more of the Island this time - Myrtos beach, Fiskardo and Argostoli are well worth a visit.
Without a doubt this will be our destination again next year and only wish we didn't have to wait so long to return.
Thank you so much to Nicky, Rita, Mama and Sofia. See you next August... Laura and Mark :-) x

Thanks to nicky, rita and mama, had a brill time. Felt like home. Friendly, caring and nothing was to much. Noted a few comments before went. Took travel kettle for room and stocked fridge with fruit and mythos. All sorted. If you want great location, and want to be treated as a special guest, its got it all.

We have just spent a fantastic week at this wonderful hotel (6.8.13-13.8.13) our first time in Kefalonia and couldn't have wished for a better holiday. Stayed in room 34, top floor, which overlooked the mountains and had a side sea view - watched the sun rise every morning sitting on our private balcony! Remote-controlled air conditioning (free!) was bliss. Room was a good size with a double and single bed, television and fridge with freezer compartment (ice-cube tray included). Bathroom was a relatively good size which also had a window, so lots of natural light ~ sea view rooms do not have that. Room was cleaned daily with a change of sheets and towels every other day. All areas of the hotel were spotless.
Breakfast was sufficient for us and there was always plenty to eat. You do have the option for a cooked breakfast at a very reasonable cost. We had lunch once in the hotel, omelettes, which were very tasty.
The pool area was very peaceful. Some newer, softer sun loungers, with head cushions, were provided along with the hard plastic ones.
Everyone connected to this amazing, family-run hotel, are so friendly, work extremely hard and make your stay as perfect as possible. They deserve all the excellent reviews. We will hopefully be back same time next year. 'Ya soo' Nicky, Rita, Mama and Sofia. Sandra and Barry x

Room Tip: Side-rooms have mountain and sea-view....perfect!

It gets a excellent five rating due to its value, friendliness and service. It is not luxury, but for a 3 star is very good and in a lovely location.
Clean rooms, very friendly staff, lovely pool and only a few yards to a small peeble beach with some excellent snorkeling. The breakfasts were simple but plentiful Bread, butter, jams, cake, boiled eggs, cereals, fruit, juice, tea and coffee. There were options for eggs and bacon if you wishes froma small menu at an extra charge - we didn't need it except for the delicious yogurt and honey of which one portion did us all.
Our kids loved the pool and the free wifi.
Had a couple of lunches there, salads large and tasty, spag bol was delicious.
Rooms were basic but comfortable, bathrooms small with a shower. Kept very clean and linen changed twice during the week. All had AC which was vital in August. Views from the room balconies was lovely, across to Ithaca.
10 minute walk along the sea front promenade to the small harbour and restaurants. Plenty of choice. If you want to hire a boat to explore the coves, book in advance during the main season, They get booked quickly.

Room Tip: Top floor sea view have the best views - surprise surprise!

I booked the Gonatas for a short, relaxing break with my daughter, based on the excellent reviews. We were not disappointed. I cannot praise this hotel or the lovely family who run it, too highly. We knew it is a small, two star hotel when we booked and this was reflected in the cost of the holiday, so our expectations were modest. In fact, this is a better hotel than most of the more expensive hotels I have stayed in, in terms of comfort, cleanliness and guest service. We were made so welcome and nothing is too much trouble for Nicky, her sister Rita and the rest of the staff. Our room was comfortable, spotlessly clean, had free air-con, a full sized fridge and a terrace with table and chairs with the most spectacular view of the bay. Linen and towels were changed regularly. The breakfast was more than adequte for us, fresh bread, toast, eggs, spreads and the famous cakes and pastries baked by Nicky. We enjoyed the pool and were not bothered that sunbeds did not have cushions. Surely these would be less hygienic anyway!
We loved Agia Effimias, it is so picturesque and everything is in easy walking distance. Swimming in the clear sea at the small rocky Paradise Beach across the road was fantastic but wear jelly shoes! Lots of good tavernas for lunch and evening meal. We liked the Paradise Beach or the Gonatas for lunch and Poseidon for evenings, but every taverna we tried proved good. Local white wine is inexpensive and delicious. We were sorry to leave and felt that we were saying farewell to new friends. We had a lovely, simple and relaxing holiday and thank Nicky and the staff for their warm hospitality in their lovely hotel.

We stayed early July 2013 and thoroughly enjoyed our much-needed break. The hotel is very clean and the staff superb, they cannot do enough for you. Breakfast is limited, as others have mentioned but the Paradise Beach Taverna one minute's walk is brilliant for lunch after a hard morning's reading and sun-bathing and all taverna's in the village are excellent for a late evening meal and all just a 15 minute stroll away.
There are a couple of small gripes, such as the tiny shower area and clingy curtain, but to be honest, the location and owners more than make up for such matters and it would be petty to penalise the hotel as a result.
All in all, highly recommended for a relaxing break in a wonderful setting.

Room Tip: Higher floors have the best views.

We stayed at Gonatas in June 2013 and can only say it was possibly the best holiday we have ever had. I agree with comments regarding the hotel being a bit 'tired' but a lot of the people we met whilst we were there all said that they would be back again soon, and some had been going year after year. The Gonatas has a magic of its own - no modern up to the minute amenities, but all you need for a holiday, and all kept so spotlessly clean. We do like a higher floor room but we stayed on ground level and it was fine, lots of room outside our apartment. Maybe Nicky took our ages ( young at heart pensioners) into account and catered accordingly. The upper floor views would have been spectacular but we were fine.

We can see the hotel has seen better days, but it is still so beautiful and all the staff (4 ladies!) are so friendly and can't do enough for you. The buffet continental breakfasts were absolutely fine and the 'full English' could be available for a few euros if required (as well as Greek yoghurt with fruit and nuts and honey, fresh fruit, omelettes etc). It was so quiet and tranquil around the hotel that you'd think nobody was about but if you wanted lunch or drinks, the staff were there for you. Nicky is always baking!

We have done the All Inclusive holidays as well as self-catering holidays over the years, but this was definitely our finest for the likes of peace, tranquillity, views, cleanliness, nearby tavernas, and within easy distance to the northern beauty spots such as Sami, Assos and Fiskardo. Paradise beach and Paradise Taverna are opposite the Gonatas, and only a short very pleasant walk into the village of Aghios Efimia. If you're looking for a lively bustling holiday then maybe it's not for you, but as far as friendly people, a good chat over a beer, then this might be! Everyone we met including other guests, staff at Gonatas and the staff in other Tavernas we frequented (regularly!) were wonderful. Perfect! Thank you Nicky for helping to make our holiday so good.

Room Tip: Ensure the air conditioning is working... if a problem Nicky will see it is put right for you. Just...
