The location of John's Hotel within a moment's walk of the pedestrianised esplanade along the Euripus Strait makes this a perfect location during a break in Chalkida (pronounced Halkida). The esplanade has a plethora of eateries catering for tourists, ranging from well priced to finer dinning. Cheaper options can be found a few minutes walk into the less touristy areas of the town.

The hotel itself has a luxurious feel to it with a breakfast area for residents and an outdoor courtyard area, the secret garden, which serves drinks. There is a second bar area inside the hotel.

A laundry service is available at request and the friendly staff all communicate well in English.

The train station is on the mainland, within a two minute walk from the hotel and the line services Athens ( less than 11 euros return) and Thessaloniki .

The nearby old sliding bridge, that spans the water from the mainland to the island, is closed to both motor traffic and pedestrians once per day, in the late evening. This is fascinating to watch due to the engineering feat which results in the bridge sliding  underground, beneath the road. It is also a good place to watch the phenomenon of Evripos and also passing turtles and sealife in the clear waters.

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

This was our home base while volunteering at Ritsona refugee camp for three weeks in April-May, 2019. It was a lovely and clean hotel with a very accommodating staff. We had a tiny ant problem right before we left for home in the states and they were made aware of it and said they'd take care of it. John's is very conveniently located with access to stores, cafes, banks, and restaurants. It is a three minute walk to the lovely promenade along the water where i'd walk morning and night. We had a room on the bar side, second floor, and the people talking and the music was very noticeable and interfered with my sleep until I used ear plugs. The buffet breakfast was adequate, although not extensive. More fresh fruit might have been a nice addition. John's provided a safe and appealing place to hang out and sleep and a welcome contrast to the work we did during the day.

John’s Hotel is a family hotel in the center of Chalkida
+ 1 minute from the sea sidewalk, and 3 minutes from the old bridge.
+ The personnel are very friendly, and can give you nice hints about Places. Also they clean the rooms every day.
+ The breakfast was ok for a 3 star hotel.
+ The rooms looks like they had a renovation a short time ago.
+ There are a small fridge, television, air conditioner, and a hair dryer.
+ The hotel also have parking and 2 elevators.
- There where a WiFi, some times it was ok, but there where times the signal was bad or couldn’t handle another connection.
- The bathroom was to small and that was a problem also.
- The finally negative it was that downstairs at the skylight there was a bar, the music started at 10:00 and finished at 00:00, the problem was not the music but the bar customers talking too loud and making all kind of noises.

For all the above
3⭐️/5⭐️

I stayed in John's hotel from December 7th to 14th of 2018. I took the hotel's breakfast for two days and I was totally satisfied with it. Great Greek coffee with a special cream, yummy croissant, fresh orange juice, spicy bacon, salami, etc. My room was located on 4th floor and had the view of backyard with a balcony decorated by a table and two chairs. Hotel staffs were super kind and warm and welcomed me with a semi-sweet red wine which was the best drink I've ever had. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean. I had dinner at the hotel bar twice and enjoyed the ornamented Christmas tree. John's hotel is very close to the commercial center in Avanton street and very suitable for shopping especially from big Zara shop. By the way, do not miss the cafes and restaurants near the sea on weekends. They serve super delicious foods and the area is usually crowded with locals which was so pleasant for me.
