I have stayed in Grand Serai for a weekend with my family. It was a fabulous experience, the hotel is very modern, the personnel very helpful and the service according to a 5 star hotel.
I enjoyed my staying and the only small think that a would propose is about breakfast that could include more choices of meat and cheese.

Old hotel but very beautiful and well preserved, with a very elegant decoration inside. The rooms are huge, the bed and the sofa were very confortable, and the bathroom was very big as well. Also, the service was very kind and attentive. The breakfast buffet is very nice, you can find almost everything, and there is a chef who fries the egg and bacon you bring him in the moment. There is free wifi, but sometimes it stops working. The views from my room, towards the street on the side of the hotel, were a bit disappointing, as there were some old buildings.

The Grand Serai wants to make you feel like you are walking into the Dolmabaci Palace..It is decorated with touches from the days of the Turkish sultans . There are paintings of portly pashas smoking their argilehs and comely harem ladies. And of course, brave Greek patriots.

The breakfast buffet in the sun-filled dining room is vast and fresh. There is even a jovial egg expert who will cook your egg for you the way you like. ( do you know how to say sunny-side-up in Greek? You can't, -you just say, "normal", and over-easy is "well done")Not only is the personnel here very well trained and very personable,-even the cleaning ladies were charming- they are also very good looking!!

The hotel lobby is massive and full of light. The light comes streaming in from large glass panels and makes you feel glad to be alive. The ROOM hallways are, alas, positively FUNERARY. The corridors are very dark, very dark-dark wood--,dark walls and NO overhead lights at all, When we arrived,we could not find where the room numbers were printed. ( generally look for them to be on the door, right? However, nowhere could we find them) I was so tired and finally resorted myself to the humiliation of dragging myself back downstairs to reception and asking sheepishly where the room numbers are indicated. Luckily, another nice guest pointed out that that the room numbers were on the small light embedded onto the floor. Nice idea, but ,now,I still couldn't see where to stick the cardkey so I fumbled around to drag out my cell phone flashlight..,still hanging on with one hand on the wall. Well, we assumed there would be a slot somewhere-so we tried slotting in the card wherever we could . Guests who are as unsophisticated as we are apparently need to be told to just touch the card to the metal square. Easy peasy once you know ( maybe there are directions on the card but who the hell can see directions of there is no light, right?),We must have looked like Laurel and Hardy trying to get into our room but we ended up laughing at ourselves. Some overhead corridor lights that go on automatically by sensor would be a good idea there.
The hotel, for seniors like us, is about a half hour walk to the old city. A very pleasant walk or an easy 3.7 euro taxi. All in all, I found the people of Yanina to have been extraordinarily kind , and patient with foreigners.
