“Lovely Hotel - Parga traditional Greek”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

Hotel very good, clean and tastefully decorated with a lovely balcony over the pool area, we had twin beds and plenty of hangers for clothes and also drawers. No need to take a hairdryer as the one provided works well. You also have air con and a fridge. We stayed Bed and Breakfast from the 8 to 21 Sept, breakfast has a good variety of choice both hot and cold food. You can walk everywhere from the hotel with no problem. Restaurants that we ate in our favourite Golfos taverna 10/10, Greek night brilliant - Yannis 9/10, 5 Senses 9/10, Perivoli 8/10 plus many others, we did not have a bad meal. For drinks the house red is lovely, for good music and superb cocktails go to the Blue Bar, we had a fabulous holiday and we will definitely be returning to Parga

Room Tip: Rooms are all good, quiet location

We stayed at The Alfa Hotel from 8th-15th Sept
.
When we arrived in Parga we were dropped off from the coach up on the main road, our luggage taken to the hotel in a van and we were led down by the Rep.(The same in reverse when we went home).

We had room number 22 which was spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated but very small. It had twin beds with very hard mattresses, TV, air con, fridge, hairdryer, safe (7 euros for the week), lots of hanging space for clothes but not enough draw space.

Breakfast was nice with plenty of choice but the hot food was often only lukewarm.

Nice pool with plenty of sunbeds (hard white plastic type) but no mattresses to put on them, we bought lilos from the supermarket to enable us to be able to use them.

Things we did- The Land Train to Water Mill / Waterfall
Boat taxi to Sarakiniko beach
Olive Oil Museum
Boat trip on The Gaios to Anti Paxos, The Blue Caves & Paxos.

Restaurants that we ate in- Perivoli 8/10
Yannis 8/10
5 Senses 9/10
Christos Tavern 10/10 (Sarakiniko Beach)
We also had drinks & nibbles in- Johnnys Place
Meeting Place
Ouzeri Stefanos (Hellenikon)

Overall we had a brilliant holiday and The Alfa Hotel is definitely somewhere we would return to.

A very nice trip to a real Greece place and a very friendly hotel. After some of the larger islands this was real Greece again. The hotel is good, clean and on waliking distance of the centre of Parga. I could not find one negative. If you like ti visit this hotel book early in the season. If you don't you will come on 2nd place as the hotel will be fully booked. This because of the 23 rooms the hotel has. All personel very friendly. Restaurant 5th Sences excellent. Maybe you pay a little more but for Greek tyou have than real special evening.

Room Tip: All rooms are same but some have been renovated. You can ask for it.

We stayed at the Alfa for 2 weeks. I can only repeat what others on her have said, this really is an excellent base to stay in Parga. The rooms are spotless, and they all have a bath, which is a bonus. I enjoyed breakfast as there was a good selection. The staff are all friendly and helpful, as well as extremely hard working. The only thing that lets this hotel down are the uncomfortable sun beds.As everything else is so good I find it a little odd that they won't invest in comfortable beds, as I'm sure they wouldn't cost a fortune.

I wouldn't let this put you off though, we will definitely return, and are not surprised to see that Thomson are already fully booked for 2014

This hotel is fantastic, it's up the side road fron the town beach and harbour area, furthest away from the castle end. It's only a short walk up, very nice location. The owners are lovely very friendly and always on hand if you need anything. The rooms are very well kept and clean. The breakfast is excellent, very good choice of hot and cold breakfast items. There is a fantastic restaurant called 5 Senses, the food is very good, like a posh Al la Carte feeling to it, it a must try.
The pool area is very large and relaxing, you will love this hotel, there are only positives to talk about, we will definetely be returning to the Alfa, thank you.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the side road are quieter.

This was our fourth visit to the Alfa Hotel and it is in our opinion the best hotel & restaurant in Parga. Spotless rooms, superb food, lovely pool area & bar. The staff are marvellous but it is the family that makes this hotel special.

I am not sure when we will be in Parga again but whenever we go back this is the only hotel for us!

Stayed at the Alpha for a fortnight in July. Allocated a good sized room with double bed and equally good sized bathroom with bath and overhanging shower. Room was kept spotlessly clean with bedding and towels changed regularly. The mosquito net around the bed was interesting but tended to be annoying if you needed to grab some water/toilet visit during the night when you became entangled in it! Needless to say we abandoned it and just kept the patio doors shut from dusk onwards whilst buying a plug in repellent from Greg's supermarket across the lane from the hotel. The air conditioning worked well but was very noisy for a light sleeper like myself. The system goes off at 4am anyway as the humidity level drops rapidly from 3am so I just turned it off at 3 am most nights. Outside the hottest few months I guess this would not be a problem at all.
Hotel had a good, clean warm swimming pool with enough sunbeds and umbrellas to go around when we were there and a good selection of bar food and drinks available at reasonable prices.
The lounge included a library of books and magazines to borrow and comfy settees. All the staff were great-friendly and smiling-always happy to help. Safe hire was 7 Euros per week (tiny, tiny key though-so take care to keep safe in zipped purse or wallet) . The restaurant area (the Five Senses) was again spotless. breakfast was the best choice we have had in Greece -especially those yummy pancakes. People came from neighbouring apartments to pay for the privilege of eating breakfast here-which is a great recommendation. We ate three times in the evening here and it was good, although on one night two of our choices were not available and the special seemed to be constantly Sea Bass! Some guests liked the water being served in multi-coloured bottles but we stuck to the reps advice of bottled only. It was great to have a free snifter and snorter (liqueurs) before and after the meal. Remember to present your key when ordering to receive your discount if you are an Alpha Hotel guest.
Alpha is set on a single track, semi-tarmacked lane leading from a small number of apartments, tavernas and private houses down into the town itself. You reach the first small beach in 5 minutes and the larger one in ten. The harbour and old town is around 15 minutes away and the old town leading to the castle is about a 20 minutes stroll. The atmosphere in town is good. The old town gets busy at night but we always felt safe. We ate well at many different restaurants and particularly enjoyed Torros in the old Town, Dokos on the main road near the BP Garage and Ostria -the last restaurant along the front below the castle.
We enjoyed a night cap at the Sol Hotel Garden Bar on our way back to the Alpha - people and small boat watching. The journey from Parga to the Alpha is obviously uphill and we found a small torch very useful. It is not totally dark up the lane as some houses, tavernas, small shops and apartments have outside lights and there are intermittent street lights but there were two stretches with little lights on over an uneven patch of road with clear tripping potential.
We went on several trips-really enjoyed Meteori (although an early start-modern wonder of the World in my opinion) and the river walk up the Acheron Gorge. Not so sure about the full Paxos boat tour -rather a long day with little to see at the stops-having said that-some folks really enjoyed this. Jackie was a good, knowledgeable rep who was always readily available in the hotel or in the town office used by Thomsons. All in all- a nice holiday in a great resort staying in a friendly hotel. Disappointed with Thomson Airways food menu-really limited and created slow service going home as everyone was hungry by the time of the delayed evening flight. We were parched but had no offer of a drink until at least 1 and a half hours on the flight. In previous times, drinks were served straight after take off. Ah well...progress!

Room Tip: Room 45 has a bathroom with real bath but a rather noisy air-conditioning unit in the early hours in...
