We had our last meal in Symi in this restaurant and probable was the worst choice over the five days of our stay. First of all, an italian restaurant should have more than just 2-3 dishes of pasta in its menu to justify its title. Secondly, 80€ for a plate of spaghetti with crab for two persons is just too much, even though the waiter insisted that it is one of the lower prices in the island for such a dish. We had a rocket-fig-parmesan salad, fried symi shrimp, tagliatelle with shrimps and lemon sauce and grilled octopus. The salad was not seasoned at all and had mainly lettuce and only a few leaves of rocket and when we said to the waiter that the menu did not mention lettuce in the salad, he brought us a big bowl of rocket (after reading carefully the menu). The fried shrimp was not tasty and the grilled octopus did not have any char or grilled taste at all. The only plate that was above average was the spaghetti. For these four plates (without alcohol) we paid 54€, which is more that 25€ per person for an average meal.

This is a great italian restaurant next to the Aliki Hotel - I had the greek pasta dish, which was absolutely the best pasta dish I have had in the past 10+ years (even compared to meals I have had in NYC at Felidia, etc.). A great place to go if you want a break from greek food.

Vaporetto, ate 8 Aug 12. Its location is as good as Tholos & Nireus, as close to the water as you can get without needing flippers, but it has a definite upmarket air about it. Everything from the front of the ristorante to the umbrella's, low lighting and neatly set tables give a classy feel, but of course such things have to be paid for... A bottle of water was placed on the table (€3 according to the bill) when we sat. The wine was well priced at €6 per 1/2L and pleasant tasting. There were only 2 appetisers that had no fish involvement & as we were sharing we chose one of those. Before the starter was served we were given 2 small, still warm, doughy bread rolls topped with tomato & parmesan (free according to the bill), an excellent start. We went for the prosciutto & melon, a little pricey but we were on holiday! The starter was worth every penny, the melon obviously selected at perfect ripeness & both the flavour and melt in the mouth texture of the ham showed its quality. I went for the king prawns in rosemary & my better half the spaghetti with tomato & basil. The spaghetti portion was small but quite filling, again it was cooked to perfection & the flavours stood out. The prawns (5 off) were served whole, shell still on, with sticks of fragrant rosemerry. They were, as these things always are, fiddly to eat (& here I have to say that Tholos won for me because apart from

the head & a small tail section the shell had been removed making it very pleasurable to just enjoy the prawn without battling through its armour first). However, after pulling the heads (not forgetting to suck them thank you Mr Stein for that tip) legs & remaining shell off there is no doubt that they were fantastic prawns cooked absolutely spot on. To round the meal off we went for the nearly legendary chocolate soufle, a tad pricey at €10 but very, very good as was the sharply tasting lemon sorbet it was served with. No freebie drinks at the end of the meal and came in at €70 bang on, no doubt expensive and certainly not one to frequent regularly but overall very good indeed.
