I think so much more could be made of this attraction if the Greeks tried! It is a ruined castle, with some wonderful views and great to explore, but no information about it. However it is free, as despite having an entrance booth, no one is in there.

By far the best castle on the island of Rhodes: fantastic views of the surrounding areas. My only criticism would be that there is not any information about the castle itself

We almost bypassed this castle because everyone said that Monolithos was better, but when Kamiros was closed on Monday, we decided to go try Kritinia for the sunset - it was the most serendipitous closing because Kritinia was not only an easier hike up to the top, but had this ruined balcony looking area where you could get the best sunset pictures and just admire the scenery in open air. Hands down that one spot was the best sunset in our Greek islands trip, including the famous sunset in Oia in Santorini.

That being said, many families came by, and their children almost fell off the side of the castle over the cliffs because there aren't any railings or safety precautions. It's what makes the castle so beautiful, but if I wouldn't let kids go up there without hanging onto them!

Kritinia castle is definitely worth a visit - if only for the views and the fact that you're on the less-visited west coast of Rhodes. The castle is in ruins but it's part of the charm. The views are amazing. And really, it's a short flight of stairs up, so you haven't gone out of your way at all to be there. There are a number of tour buses, but it doesn't detract from the castle. Definitely go! And go a bit further south to Monolithos castle (in about the same state of disrepair) while you're at it!

We drove quite close to the castle and just had a short steep walk up steps to the castle. The ground inside the castle is very uneven so wear sensible shoes ! Some of the walls are in a poor state of repair and the drops steep ! The castle is just a shell really with some parts recently restored but the views out over the islands are amazing ! There is a cafe down the steps from the car park which was handy for a cool drink ! We left here and drove down to Kamiros Skala for lunch its a nice harbour spot with a couple of tavernas. A nice way to spend a day !
