“A little known (it would seem) treasure.”
Reviewed October 20, 2013 via mobile

We decided to visit Monte Smith as a friend had recommended it. I'm glad we did. It is a gem. The Temple of Apollo has three and a half beautiful Doric Columns and make for stunning photos. The amphitheatre is well restored too and the view you get of it from the top of the hill is fabulous. At the base of the theatre is the stadium. Again it is well preserved and you can really get a sense of events taking place there in days gone by. What I found most staggering though is that there were hardly any people there and this was at a busy time of day. It is a bit of a walk from the old town but shouldn't take more than 15 minutes. We weren't sure of the route so we went there in a taxi.....it was only €5 and the driver took us right up to the top of the acropolis explaining it's history on the way. We loved it!

“Views unreal”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

While these ruins may not stack up against some of the more well known sites, they are well maintained and the surrounding views give them this much more beauty. This is one of the must stops in Rhodes. Take the time to wander and see everything. We ended up walking from here to the old town. If you come, do it during off peak times. I couldn't imagine it with all the people in the middle of the summer.

While driving around in a rental ca we happened upon this site! Wow! We didn't expect to find such ruins and were amazed at the size of the arena and stadium. Many people were jogging, biking, and picnicing in the area. Don't miss this ancient wonder, it is well worth seeing and experiencing!

“Great views, well worth a visit.”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

We walked up to this viewing point from Rhodes Town, and were treated to spectacular views across Rhodes Town. What we particularly liked about it was that it is cordoned off so that you can't get too close, and end up being in somebody else's photograph. It is also worth walking around the ancient stadium at the bottom of the steps.

“Wonderful place”
Reviewed October 1, 2013

This place must be seen. We first saw it taking the little red train near the main post office. We then visited it again with relatives. this is a must. It was lovley. the air from up there is different. I can't explain it, but the air was lighter and cleaner. There is also a small amphitheater where they sometimes use it for special plays etc. If you are planning a trip it may be great to check out any plays for an alternative experience. Definitely a must for any traveller to Rhodes.
