Stayed in a pleasant, well-kept, en-suite balcony room with a view of the castle.
Located in Platanos on a hill between the two ports of Agia Marina and Lakki, the hotel might appear to be too far inland for appreciation of the island's charms. Nothing could be further from the truth. The roof-top pool/bar area is excellent, with great views and the evening meal I had there was superior to those in the Agia Marina tavernas. The central location meant early morning walks on one side up to the castle, with its fascinating museum, and on the other up around Merovigli (with a good map provided by the hotel), site of the British HQ in the 1943 Batlle, were easily done before the good breakfast. Exploring the island (much under-rated, it's of more varied interest than Patmos, for instance) in each direction was easy (by bus and on foot): again, the hotel provided very helpful guidance/map. For British visitors the three war museums and Commonwealth War Cemetery should provide an additional source of interest. One of these is on the ground floor of the hotel and is run by Andonis' father, Tassos, a nine year-old boy during the Battle, which has been described as 'Churchill's Folly'. A moving and humbling experience to talk to him.
Platanos itself has more to offer than at first sight: an excellent gyros place in the Square for lunch and all facilities, besides a fascinating (free) archaeological museum.
Apart from their hospitality, Andonis provides transport to and from the ferries and the hotel not only sells ferry tickets but is in tune with the potentially confusing variable use of the two ports by ferries - a source of reassurance.
Very highly recommended.

Nice family run hotel, with authentic greek charm & personality. Rooms are nice, large and greek decorated, and has a fabolous view. Staff are friendly, and helpful. Unfortunately the roof bar was closed, and the pool was out of order during our stay.

Stay with Andonis (Greek, lived in Darwin, Aust) and Luna (Danish), at Hotel Elefteria, Platanos. Why stay there? Because Andonis and Luna provide their guests with a worry free Greek Island experience. Their roof top pool and bar / dinning area are a stand out feature. Watching the sunset and Castelo light up at night! Many of their rooms have wonderful views and you can walk to Agia Marina port / restaurants and Panteli beach / restaurants. They also run a travel agency service for additional ticketing. If you have limited time and are seeking to relax, think about making Hotel Elefteria your base for exploring by fast ferry the nearby islands of Patmos, Lipsi, Kalymnos and Kos.
In praise for the island of Leros! It offers a good summer community all enjoying restaurants in romantic waterside locations, walks to the castelo, swimming at beaches, exploring the art deco port of Lakki, vistas with Venetian villas, WW11 sites and some arty shops. It is not expensive to holiday here and because of this the island (and Hotel Elefteria) has many repeat holidaymakers. Maria and Maurie Sydney Australia.

With my wife and my two children, we stayed two weeks in the studio on the top level. These were wonderful holidays. The owners are very friendly and helpful. We appreciated a lot the home made marmalades and the cocktails. The sight from the balcony (not only the sea, but the castle above Platanos) is wonderful. The children (and the adults) loved the swimming pool. The hotel is 500 meters from the sea (nice and quiet beach). It is very close to Platanos downtown (small supermarket plus many shops for vegetables, fruits, bread, cookies), which is very nice for a studio with cooking facilities. Last, I would say that the Hotel Elefteria is located in Platanos, which is a "real" city (though small), not a city which only relies on tourism. For us, this is also one of the very nice features of the hotel.
