“I can't complain, but...”
Reviewed April 15, 2012

We stayed at Sandys Studios for a week. We had a log villa, which was built according to the finnish "mökki" –minus the sauna! It was very spacious, clean and well preserved. The sleep quality was excellent, since there is some distance between the cottages and you can't hear your neighbours!

The breakfast was the usual continental, but was not self service. We had to sit to the restaurant and waited to be served. Something that stroked me as negative was that, one day I didn't ate all my bread slices (if i remember correctly, they give 3 slices per person). The next day they gave us one slice less! Since in our price the breakfast was included, I expected to have the same amount of it, or what's the point? I understand that they don't want to waste any food, but at least they could have asked us before they do that. These small details really matter to us and that's why we believe the service was average.

Since the location of the villas was pretty far from everything (restaurants, the town, shop center) we rent bikes. That was really nice because there are bike roads running next to the main road. This way we solved our transportation, we could go for shopping (the mini market that's inside the Sandys Studios is very expensive) and visit the town in the evening. For eating definately I recommend the Caravan. Look for it!

The beaches that are close, are not very nice because they are small and very crowded. We had to travel far enough to find a decent beach. The best one was at Kefalos. Of cource for that you need to rent a car, since it's on the other side of the island and it's a 45 minute drive.

All and all, I can't complain but it's not a place that we would like to visit again.

This place gave me and my family four memorable holidays and I could return to the Sandys Apartments again and again till the end of my life..Seclusion and privacy being great asset. Fantastic combination of sceenery (mountains, the sea, chapels to pray at, high life nearby in big hotels in the vicvinity of rural atmosphere, no moskitos).
Easy access to the hot springs - TERMA - by bus and the walk to the town allows to view a bit of life of the local nation.
The owners and the staff very cooperative even under controversial situations.

Sandy's is a family run hotel, everybody there was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are brand new and very clean. The pool is also nice and clean and the place is very nice to spend relaxing moments. Delicious home made meals in Sandys restaurant, ( Credits to Helen and Olga) and very nice gardens all around the hotel !!! A relaxing place close to Kos town.
Many thanks to everybody at Sandy's, for our great vacations !!!!

The rooms are basic,no TV or even Radio, small cooking hob.Bathroom was a deathtrap so slippery when you had a Shower very dangerous, you have to buy your own toilet rolls. Expensive drinks at the Pool Bar and they underestimate the walk into town-it's about 45 minutes and you don't feel particularly safe as the cars and motorbikes are inconsiderate to pedestrians. To rent a safety box for the week is 25 Euro's which I thought was pricey.

Arrived here for at 5am for 1 week. Stayed in 3 bed studio. The area is quiet, but there are noisy cockerels & dogs nearby. Didn't sleep too well the 1st night - too hot - so paid 40 euros for the air-con for the week. I thought a week was 7 nights but only got 6 for our money? They should give it free for the first night!!!
As for the apartment, very basic and very tired. Needs a good tidying up. Very few utensils in the kitchen area including a chopping board that wanted burning!
The matresses were absolutely shot at - you could feel the springs poking through.
The bathroom was quite scruffy - chrome taps all tarnished a horrid bronze colour with a hint of turquoise and the shower curtain - never seen anything like this - it was supported (sort of) by metal rods which were all bent and manky. There was no way the curtain would stay shut without some manual assistance. Finally, take some loo roll 'cos once the one in the apartment has gone, they don't give you another!!!
Overall, the apartment was pretty grim and if I walked into somewhere like that in England, I'd walk straight out again.
As for the food available at Sandy's, it was excellent with reasonable bar prices. Pedros the barman / waiter was great.
Be careful of a restaurant sign posted on the road opposite Sandys - it's about 4km away!

Like others I was a little bit nervous about booking this accomodation, but went ahead on the knowledge that it was: cheap, away from Kos centre. This is what I honestly thought about Sandys:

LOCATION
Yep, it's a ten min walk back to the main coast road, and then 20-30mins to dolphin island in the centre of Kos town. But in my view its nice a leisurely walk of an evening with bars, restaurants and tourist shops to stop off at along the way. Otherwise the solution is to hire pedal cyles at 2 euros a day. It really is quite quaint cycling through the country and there are dedicated cycle paths throughout Kos. The road back to the hotel is quite dark, but only unlit for about 100 yards, so take a small torch in your handbag and you'll be fine. The cyle ride in to town is 10 mins max and most bikes have lights anyway.

SANDYS
We had a room with three beds. On arrival the bed I got had a a really bad mattrass with springs that dug in you. I soon swapped beds and reported the mattrass to Pedros so I hope it will be replaced soon.
The room was basic but clean, two electrics rings and a fridge its al you need to do a modest breakfast, but dont expect to cook a lavish evening meal! The snack bar is excellent and the staff are friendly and helpful. Pool area was very clean and quiet. The log cabins look excellent and are really quite tucked away in an orange/lemon grove.

NOISE
The only noice we encountered was the usual holiday stuff like cats, crickets and chickens! If you have a fridge in your room it does come on and off during the night so if these noises will bother you take some ear plugs!

BEACHES
The nearest beaches are all along the main road. It has to be said none of the beaches aong this stretch are that good as they are quite narrow and pebbly. The best bet is to cycle to dolphin island, turn right an follow the cycle path around to the beaches on the other side of town, some of which offer free sunbeds if you drink at the bar behind the beach. If you want a beach hotel then perhaps pick a different resort than Kos Town.

KOS
I loved the place. The town is fab - a nice mix of ancient greece with lots of monuments to see and newish Greece with good taverna's etc. We went on a boat trip and got the bus to Therma where the thermal hots springs are - well worth the trip.

Excellent weeks holiday as long as you rememberis what it is - 2 star accomodation, that is clean, quiet and away from the crowds!
