Our tour guide (Constantine) was very knowledgeable with historical facts and as there were a few elderly people with us, he took us up the side of the ruins on a slight inclined pathway to avoid many, many steps, so that we could walk down them instead

The Asklepion is worth visiting and its free to enter.i am always fascinated when looking at these old ruins how old they actually are.Unlike most of the old ruins on Kos these are guarded and the want you to respect them so the men are not aloud to walk around with no t shirt on you must not smoke or be too loud also you may not step on any of the old artifacts. All in all an Interessting visit

Look out for the “Blue Train” that departs on the hour next to the Tourist Information Centre south east of the castle. 4 euros per person (return ticket) and takes you the 3.5 km out of town to the 4th Century BC ruins of the Asklepieion (where Hippocrates learnt his trade), and leaves you there for 60 minutes. Just about enough time to do the whole site and have refreshments. 4 Euros admission. You can climb the 125 steps quite easily for marvellous views over to Turkey, or there is a route to the left which is a more gentle slope (up or down).

This site is worth a visit although, like the castle, would have been much better if more information has been supplied. A warning, it is very tiring on the legs. Constantly up and down steps.
Note OAPs get in half price.
