We originally went because they had live Greek music. We met Jalil in the afternoon at the entrance to the restaurant. He patiently answered all our questions about the kind of fish and music we could expect if we came to eat dinner. When we arrived for dinner that night he smiled and welcomed us back. For dinner we chose our fish from the freezer in front and they grilled it for us. While we waited Jalil brought us warm, fresh bread (whole wheat and white) with fresh made garlic butter and a fresh olive spread and bottled water. We ordered Greek salad, Tzaziki, wine, and a beer.
Our meal was on the table within a reasonable time hot and delicious! The food portions were generous and they even brought more vegetables (no charge) along with a dessert that was out of this world!! A home made yogurt (as thick and sweet as ice cream) and a candied tomato topping also home made.
The music, starting at 7:30, was equally enjoyable. There were 2 men who sang and played beautifully.
The service was great. They were out to please. We went to the Kalymonos Taverna that is "not" on the sea side but was not a deterrent and the the atmosphere is warm and homey. The price of the meal varies with the weight of the fish ordered and we found it competitive or lower than other restaurants on the street.
We enjoyed our meal, the service, and the atmosphere so much we returned for another meal. It should be noted; anything that was wrong or missing was corrected quickly and with a smile. We do not feel that the other reviews could be about the same place we visited!! In fact not only we returned but we met a woman from Holland who had eaten there on a previous visit to Kos...and she too was there the second time we went back! Thank you to all the family at Kalymnos Taverna for a wonderful memory.
