“Wow what a place.....”
Reviewed June 9, 2012

Megisti is by far the best hotel on the island with out question and has the best posible position. But what made the trip very special was the hospitality from all the staff... who waited on you hand and foot and ensured that you enjoyed all that the hotel and island had to offer.Special mention to Stratos and Maria who were exceptionally accomodating and friendly,Stratos makes a fab Strawberry daiquiri. Breakfast and lunch was fresh and plentiful... i will certainly be travelling back to this magical place in the very near future

Room Tip: I stayed in a suite................... but great views from every where

The location of MEGISTI is great and amenities are fine, but the real attraction is the truly great treatment you receive from every employee in the hotel - from beginning to end! We arrived early in the season and were treated like honored guests. Maria and Stratos were especially kind. There were only 6 guests when we stayed but the fabulous breakfast spread could have served 36! MEGISTI has plenty of lounges to relax and enjoy the wonderful view. You can also swim right in from of the hotel property. The water is so clear, you can see the bottom! Idyllic and friendly ... my dream is to return.

Stayed at the Megisti hotel in a Junior Suite with seaview for 4 nights in September 2010. The rate was a measly Euro160 p/n and this included a good breakfast spread.

Our room was very spacious with a king sized bed, large ensuite with rainshower, sitting area, tv/dvd etc and a balcony overlooking the harbour. There was also a welcome fruit platter in our room which was a nice unexpected surprise. Another surprise was no water.. the taps are pretty funky so we thought this was just "user error", but on ringing reception were told "Oh, it’s not the tap ... everyone on the island is using water at the same time so you have to wait a couple of hours to get some”! Welcome to life on an island with a permanent population of 300! Hahahaha this was the one and only time there was any issue with the water pressure in the 4 days of our stay.

The hotel is situated at one side of the entrance to the u-shaped harbour, with no other buildings on the sea side. It’s a great location as offers the view over the harbour and to Turkey a few kms away. The waterside cafes are only a short stroll from the hotel but are just far enough that it’s nice and peaceful at night. The hotel “pool” – the sea in front of the hotel - was so clean and clear. We snorkelled here one afternoon and while the visibility was excellent the marine life wasn’t that varied.
This is definitely the best hotel on the island, unfortunately we found some of the staff not as good as you’d expect. They weren’t rude, more like the Gen-Y attitude of not really wanting to be that helpful from a few of the girls at reception. The attitude surprised us as the email communication before we arrived was courteous and responsive, and the hotel is very nice. We felt certain staff just let the hotel down. There was however a nice older lady serving in the breakfast area who was friendly.

For activities, it’s worthwhile getting up early one morning and climbing the steps to the top of the mountain. The view over the harbour is gorgeous and it’s not too strenuous a climb – only about 30mins up counting stops for photos. For a less taxing activity hire a boat for a trip to the blue caves. There are a couple, the one we swam in went into the cliff about 35m with a ceiling approx 15m above. Swimming in the seacaves was amazing! The water is so blue and bright that it’s like swimming in a sea of neon. And the brightness doesn’t diminish the further you move from the cave entrance. A real highlight of our visit to Kazzie.

There are plenty of cafes to choose from for lunch or dinner. Our favourite was in the middle of the “U”, just a vine covered terrace really with the tables right on the water’s edge (well everything in Kazzie is!). Try the chickpea patties, they were fantastic!

Kazzie can be a bit difficult to get to depending on where you’re arriving from. Our previous stop was Santorini, so the flight was: Santorini – Athens – Rhodes – Kazzie. Lots of backtracking and it’s a shame the flight from Santorini to Rhodes wasn’t operating during our trip. I did nearly give up on including Kazzie in our trip due to logistics, but having made the effort to get there we were so, so glad we did! It was such a different experience to the touristy islands of Mykonos and Santorini and really is a beautiful part of the world.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with seaview. It'sworth it.

The hotel is well renovated. It is one of the two very good hotels of the island, the other one being Hotel Mediterraneo. They have different styles. This one is more conservative, while the other has a more hippie style. They are both excellent as they stand on one of the most beautiful and isolated Greek islands. Highly recommended!

This is a little off the beaten track on the island of Kastellorizo. We were there off season in October and it was perfect, quiet but still all the tavernas were open and the one disco. The weather was unusually changeable but the sea was warm and there is plenty of walking you can do. The Hotel is beautiful , all the rooms have balconies that over look the harbor entrance, with views of Turkey. Breakfast is excellent, cereal, eggs bacon and traditional sweets and bread. The air conditioning and bathrooms are good.

Room Tip: Some rooms are bigger than others, we had a regular one which was good room for sitting plus the ba...

Kastellorizo can be described in one word: magical!!! As soon as you see the picturesque village, the traditional architecture, the colours of the buildings, in such harmony with the natural environment, you feel immediately calm and relaxed!!! Megisti Hotel is the best place to stay in Kastellorizo. Its location is ideal, as it combines the best view of the village and the best (if not the only) spot for swimming. The terrace is spacious with enough sunbeds (it's also the best spot for pictures!!!!) and the water is crystal clear... I particularly enjoyed watching the sunset while having a drink at the hotel's bar, the colours and the view are so relaxing!!! Our room was bright and very clean, with a magnificent view!! The service was excellent and everyone was very helpful and friendly, they really made us feel like home!
Tips: Don't miss the Blue Cave, it's an experience you won't forget!! The way the light of the sun reflects in the interior of the cave creates a breathtaking blue colour.... You can visit it only by boat, but the hotel staff is very helpful and will arrange everything. Have your cameras ready, as, especially near the port, you will watch, if you are lucky, sea turtles swimming!! The castle is also worth visiting (amazing view!!) and at the museum you can watch a documentary about the history of the island. If you like hiking, you will enjoy the path of 300 steps that leads to the church of St George. And last, but not least, enjoy the seafood: everything is so fresh and tasty!! Kastellorizo and Megisti Hotel are definitely one of my favourite destinations for holidays!!!
