“Tough to get too, great view, good products”
Reviewed July 2, 2013

From getting to Santorini, it was my personal goal to make it up the mountain and see what is at the highest peak. From that standpoint, navigating the thin road, with no guardrails, and reaching the very top (actually, the very, very top, is a military installation, so no luck there), was very satisfying. The church is neat and they will talk to you, at length, about the different aspects of the monastery life and so forth... We got some wine, honey, sun dried tomatoes and some camomille tea. You could say, we started from the bottom (of the island), now we are here (Profitas Ilias).

When you'ret here you'll have an excellent view of the island but that's pretty much it. Not so exciting really.

“Magnificent views.”

Best views on the island! The road up is long, winding and narow with steep drops but it's worth it.

“very nice walk to the top”
Reviewed May 13, 2013

If you like walking, I can just recommend you a walk along the beautiful trails to the top of the highest mountain of Santorini, the Profitis Ilias. And there you find the big monastery. Most of the time, the monastery is closed, just a little chapel at the entrance is open. But we went there on Eastern and were very lucky to find the monastery open. It is such a quiet place and the views are spectacular. I must say that the walk uphill was very strenuous, because of the heat, 30°C or more...If you are a women, bring something with you that covers your knees and arms, or they do not you let in! In springtime, enjoy the wild flowers along the trail. I found it one of the most memorable walks of Santorini. You can go up the mountain from 2 sides, from Pyrgos or from Ancient Thera. You can make a roundtrip by going up 1 side and going down the other side. In Pyrgos, it is easy to find a bus to go back to your hotel if the walk seems too long, or you can walking further via a nice trail from Pyrgos to Emborio and take a bus back in this original village.

“Majestic, incomparable, unforgettable”
Reviewed April 22, 2013 via mobile

The sweeping view of the caldera, the blue and white houses, the clear sky with the gorgeous sunset. These combine to create a truly unforgettable image that will rank among the most memorable that can be experienced.
