Owner description: This is the most obvious hike you can make on the island of Santorini and it will lead you - if you have not discovered them by now - through the sister villages of Fira, Firostefani and Imerovigli, going higher up all the time above the caldera. It then continues through the expanding housing in northern direction and it finally goes to Oia via a really magnificent path. This hike offers many changing views on the volcano, the sea and the caldera. This hike takes two hours and a half (actual walking time), but the total time can reach 4 or 5 hours. It is ideal to leave Firà at about 10am and in this way you will arrive in Oia already between 1 and 2pm. You can then eat in Oia in one of the many bars. In the afternoon you can descend to the little harbour of Ammoudi in Oia. From the bus square in Fira (when you get to Fira by bus) you have to continue to the very busy square of Theotokopoulou. This is the modern centre of Fira with a lot of travel agencies, banks and bars. In the corner, in between the George's Snack Corner and the Pelican travel agency you go left, in the direction of the caldera. You can then take one of the three streets off the right, they all lead towards the higher part of Fira. Once at the Archaeological Museum higher up (this museum is open till 3pm, but not on Mondays), take a left, past the upper station of the cable car. You then go right above the caldera, until the red-brown building higher up that dominates this neighbourhood of Firostefani: it is the P.M. Nomikos Conference Centre, where a lot of exhibitions take place – on the extending corner in front of this building many people take pictures of the marvellous panoramic view. On the left of the Centre you follow the tiled road and stairs, while you enjoy the view – in front of you you can see the even higher situated village of Imerovigli.

“Fantastic view”

I visited Santorini in spring and in summer! This hike was unforgettable especially in spring when the weather wasn't too hot and the colors were vivid!

“Expect the crowds!”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

I always wanted to visit Santorini and since we booked our holiday in Crete it seemed a great idea to book a day trip to this most picturesque Greek island.. The place is magical, a paradise for any keen photographer however.. you see thousands of them in one place! The crowds were unbelievable- there was a queue in front of any possible viewing points and we had to literally push through crowds to make way for us and our 3 year old. If you think about it it is one narrow street leading from Fira to Oia and every day there are at least 3 cruise liners anchored at the shores of Santorini with another couple of day trip vessels from Crete- most likely 5 thousands of people trying to fit in one narrow street! And that doesn't include local holidaymakers.. Santorini is a wonderful place but if you have an option- visit outside of the high season and stay on the island rather than opting for a day trip..Then you might even get a chance to find a table in one of the restaurants on the way, sit down, relax and enjoy the most stunning views..

“Unforgetable experience”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

This was one of the highlights of our trip, an experience that can't be beat - gorgeous views of the sparking blue Mediterranean, the active volcano, the entire island of Santorini, the towns of Fira and Oia, all the buildings hugging the cliff face, sail boats in the harbour, the picturesque churches. This was 3 hrs of visual bliss. The trail is steep in places, but relatively level for the most part,

“Great value”

If you do not do this, you will not see the real beauties of the island since you walk at the edge of the caldera, passing by traditional houses and very beautiful taverns and cafe

“Great views and very doable to anyone in moderate shape”
Reviewed January 22, 2013

This was a great way to be active on a vacation on which you will consume tons and tons of calories in delicious food and wine. The views are some of the best in the world and it is vigorous, but it is not so hard that someone in moderate shape can't handle it. (we actually went in October 2010, but the dates don't seem to go back that far)
