We have eaten a number of times at Vitzidakis, either as a couple or with friends. We always looked forward to their speciality, Gouna, which is sun dried grilled mackerel. It is delicious and two years ago it was very good value at 7 Euros.
On our latest visit, 12 of us ate at Vizidakis. We ordered a large variety of starters to share – at least one each - and a number of different main courses, though one, the excellent good-sized, sun dried mackerel, predominated.
The service was superb and the excellent food arrived quickly - someone commented that the main courses may even have arrived a bit too quickly.
The price was astonishing. We had a dozen 500ml bottles of beer between us, about 5 litres of white wine and more than enough food so that all of us were full. At the end of the meal plates of free, nice pastry type sweets were put on the table for all of us as well as a large glass of the local souma or grappa (brandy type drink).
The bill came to 17.50 Euros per person including a tip and this was in one of the more expensive Greek island towns. We fully intended going back for another sun dried mackerel but we were invited to have dinner with our friends whose studios we were staying in and there was so much left that it did for another night as well. We were very disappointed not to make it back to Vitzidakis.
I almost forgot to say that the location in great, situated by the new harbour opposite the big fishing boats.
We rarely eat out in the UK when we know that we can get such good food and good value, with such great service in countries like Greece
