“very nice and lovely hotel situated on marvelous Plaka Beach”
Reviewed September 13, 2013

We visited Plaka Hotel last July.
We made a reservation and we got more than we what we expected.
The hotel is situated 100 meters away from Plaka Beach and people staying at the hotel can use the swimming pool of Plaka Camping which is situated 100 meters from the hotel.
That swimming pool was really nice and clean , ideal for relaxing and enjoying your cold drinks.
The restaurant which is situated by the pool is perfect:home made food , fresh vegetables and local meat , very good prices.
The rooms were really nice decorated and coloured and from your balkony you could see the sea .
The breakfast was really good and the staff was helpful and very kind.
The cleaniness of the room was superb!!
On your arrival and departure date the hotel offers you free transfer from the port or the airport with their own private mini bus.

Room Tip: All the rooms are really nice overloking the sea!!!

1)The "hotel" is not on the beach.
2) The breakfast is very poor.
3) There is no swimming pool. There is a kind of swimming pool inside the camping, which is in front of the hotel.
4) The rooms are big, clean enough and quiet.
Finally, Plaka Beach Hotel is not worth the money.

Let me start by saying that I booked this hotel for a week to stay with my pregnant wife. We had split our holiday in Naxos in two parts, staying in the north part for a few days to do the sightseing and then planned to stay somewhere on the wonderfull beach of Plaka for the last week to relax. Therefore we were looking for a hotel ON the beach to be able to leave the car and minimise moving around.

The room we were given was indeed nice, spacious and clean as would be expected by the relatively high price tag (being August and all). However, we were greatly disappointed by the positioning of the hotel.

The hotel is not ON the beach. In fact to get to the hotel, you need to walk to the entrance of a camping site, walk through the whole camping site through tents etc then out the back down a short dirt road to the entrance of the "hotel". I use the term "hotel" freely as in fact the actual reception of this hotel is the camping reception which mean that for any service yo have to wait in line with numerous backpackers , groups etc and is located a good 300 meters from the actual rooms. At the same time there were things missing such as soap, basis utencils needed to utilise the provided kitchenette and the breakfast was below basic.

I realise that the distance to the beach was walkable and therefore not a huge problem. However, being greek and having dealt with many types of hotel owners I believe it is vital to provide accurate information on websites and other promotional materials. On Plaka beach there are numerous rooms/studios/hotels ON the beach where one can step out of his room accross the beach road and onto the beach. This was what I was looking for and is definitely NOT what Hotel Plaka provides.

When returning to the hotel by car, I found it particularly annoying to have to drive through the camp site especially at night as I was fully aware that I was disturbing the numerous people resting in their tents with the noice and my headlights. Unfortunately as informed by the owenr, there was no other way to get to the hotel as the small dirt road that existed was only suitable for a motorbike or smartcar.

All in all, despite the room beong nice, we were very disappointed by our stay particularly as we had chosen the hotel for its supposed positioning on the beach. I believe it is misleading not to mention that the hotel is effectively part of a campsite and would therefore not recomend it as there are numerous other nicer and cheaper places to stay on Plaka beach.

We are a family with 2 children aged 2 and 6.
The room was very good value.
The rate included a reasonable cold buffet breakfast in pleasant surroundings.
There was a very pleasant pool which the children didn't want to leave
There was a well stocked reasonably priced shop.
The owners were friendly and helpful.
The room was perfectly adequate with aircon, mini kitchen and bathroom.
Many restaurants within 5 mins walk.
3 minutes walk to a beautiful, sandy, safe beach with great views over to paros.
Bus stop at hotel entrance - hourly buses to main town.
We enjoyed our stay very much and would return.
Be patient if contacting by email - worth the wait.

We booked 4 nights in an apartment and ended up only lasting 1 night.

We felt like we were staying in a ghost town (even though it was peak season!). There is nothing at Plaka beach and the beach itself isn't that great. The hotel buildings are located in the middle of a paddock and you need to walk down a small path and then through the campground & across the road to get to the beach. Some people might find the lack of development peaceful... but we found it creepy.

I'm not sure if it was the bugs or the weird kid that made us leave....We had a few probs getting the AC to work so after 4 calls over 3 hours reception finally decided to send some kid out to check it for us. He knocked on the door and ran into our room without saying anything. I thought i was some kid that was lost.... oh no turns out he's going to fix the AC. bizarre.

Also... there were tonnes of bugs & mosquittos. I mean hundreds. We slept with moquito repellent on after killing as many as we could with our shoes.

The room was a bit dingy and some of the furniture was covered in sand. It did however have good amenities like a fridge, stove top, pots & pans (they were dirty tho), tv, balcony.

If you still want to stay on Naxos try and stay closer to the town where you'll find more restaurants, bars, people. Otherwise go to Paros - it was the highlight of our trip.

The room itself was lovely for the price, and included a fridge, small cooking area and a dining table and chairs, and very spacious. There was a well stocked shop on site, v helpful staff who were happy to book taxi's or give you a lift if they were heading into town. There is a few local restaurants or it was about a 20 minute bus ride into Perissa. These seemed quite erratic, but I understand they are more regular in the high season. Not luxary accomadation but clean and tidy and perfect if you want to be off the beaten track and 2 minutes walk from the beach. We were there just before peak season, so the restaurant and pool weren't open, so if you want a restaurnat on site it may be worth checking when they fully open for the summer. The campsite around the hotel is a little bit scruffy, but the beach next to it is perfect, and not too busy either.

my 5th visit to naxos, 20 islands in all, it,s a pity that this hotel (my 1st visit)is at the back of the camping site, as first impression is what have i got here ? but once there it is very clean, change towels & bed linen every day, staff are very helpful, attached is a nice pool, small s/market, & taverna, and of course the lovely plaka beach is across the road, (once you walk through the camping area).
it,s , (in my opinion wrong to call it a hotel) but i,m sure in the future they will address this, also handy is the bus stop at the entrance, and takes 20 mins to the lovely town, so location is good and i can recommend it as above average.
i flew into santorini and ferry across to naxos but do watch the so called ferry time tables i loss my flight because they cancelled(without notifying anyone) and had to buy another flight back home,(ins claim, got port authority to post confirmation to me).
look at flight to athens and ferry to naxos 2hrs longer but more ferrys to and from at sensible times.
