“Worth the hike!”

I and my girlfriend took the communal bus past Filoti and jumped off just below the church of Agia Marina. Hiking up was both a challenge and a reward. Constant beautiful views gives ample opportunities for photographing. Bring plenty of water and some protection from the sun. And something to eat since the hiking takes plenty of energy.
The hike up to the peak took about 1,5h and down 1h.

We went late in the day with only an hour or so till sunset. A few locals said it was to late to go and that it would take 3 hours. We knew we only had time to go to the cave. It was well worth it. Beautiful views and very cool cave. It was a little difficult to find the road to the mountain but some locals helped. Make sure to where appropriate shoes. The terrain is tough.

Started hike from end of road near Aria Spring. Zeus cave was about 10min up trail - dark and cool inside, headlamps are necessary! About 20min further up, the trail seemed to end at a rubble slope - must look left here to see red paint marks and markers showing trail leading up slope. Another 45 min to the top with an incredible 360-degree view of the island!

Note: good trail shoes or hiking boots are necessary on this hike. Also hiking time depends on your level of fitness - this is a steep climb with over 600m elevation gain over only 2.5km. We are in good shape and it took us just under 90min to get to the top.

We had an amazing time climbing up the Zas Cave side of Zas Mountain, but we would definitely recommend bringing running if not hiking shoes, water and food for the few hours up and then down, and a tour guide or a very good description of the trail! The trail gets gradually harder and harder for a while and we ended up taking a wrong turn, climbing for another hour into dangerous territory before nearly summiting and turning back.

Definitely bring detailed instructions to get the right route - and turn LEFT after the cave!!

Breathtaking views..and hike! We did not plan very well and went up around 5pm, only having breakfast in our stomachs.. very energy draining, remember to eat before you go up! Amazing views of mountains, fields, the sea, and other islands! If the walk is getting too much, there are some really great views half way up as well. A must see if you're willing to hike!
