Great prices, cheap and more importantly fantastic Greek food with local raw materials. Especially local meat dishes were over the top. Probably the best value for money in Naxos.

We stopped here after hiking in the hills on a Sunday and were rewarded with fantastic food in a friendly authentic setting. There were several Greek families and groups eating at common tables under shade trees, and music inspired several Greek dances over the afternoon. The food highlights were the lamb chops--fantastic--which are ordered by the kg. One kilo is plenty for 3-4, especially if you are eating other items such as the tiropita, which were also memorably excellent. For dessert we shared a huge pile of Naxian cherries, also phenomenal. This is the place to eat in the villages.

We stopped at Pigi on our way back to Chora, after a driving around the inland villages of Naxos. Pigi is in Pano Potamia, which otherwise is not a well-traveled village by tourists and is somewhat easy to miss. We'd read about this restaurant in the NY Times and when we saw a sign for Pano Potamia, we veered off. The actually road takes you into the parking lot of Pigi, though we didn't know it at first. We walked around the tiny alleyways of Pano Potamia before realizing that may the only restaurant around.

We got there around 6:30 and the gorgeous green-and-yellow, tree-covered patio was mostly empty. We sat on the far end of the patio which was adjacent to a beautiful farm. The mid-afternoon sun was just barely peaking through the trees; one of the more peaceful moments of our entire trip.

We found out most of the ingredients on the menu were from the farm, or at least the village itself. We ordered homemade tzatziki, village bread, a Mythos beer, a greek salad, and, the star of the meal, rooster in a red wine and tomato sauce. The rooster is the signature dish of Naxos and it was the best thing we tasted on our whole two-week trip to Greece. It came with a side of fried potatoes. We also had a pitcher of water taken from the restaurant's well. Pano Potamia is known for the purity of its water, which could not have been more welcome on a trip where we were otherwise prohibited from drinking tap water.

The service was fantastic – clearly a family-owned place. I don't think our bill was more than 20 euro.

Pigi seems like the only restaurant for miles around, but with succelent grilled meats and delicious savory pies the residents of Potamia may not need anything else! The "Pepperpie" stands out as one of the best dishes on our two week trip to Greece, and the location is lovely and tranquil. Home cooking at its best!

The terrace is very pretty with lots of plants and even a fountain with running water. You feel relaxed as soon as you arrive. The servers are very courteous and will help you with the many choices on the menu. The food is very good and there is plenty of it. The restaurant is outside the city but well worth the effort for a good meal.
