I recently stayed at the Blue Sand Hotel and it exceeded all my expectations. The hostess/owner is very accommodating and friendly and goes out of her way to make your stay comfortable. The hotel itself has minimalist modern beachy feel and is set just above a lovely sand beach where you can catch a boat around to secluded beaches.

Our bedroom had a lovely veranda overlooking the sea and every morning we were served a delicious and healthy breakfast. The decor is beautiful - unsurprisingly the owner owns/runs an interior design business too...

I would highly recommend this hotel to all types of travelers and it is great value too.

My wife and I, stayed at Blue Sand hotel for 7 nights, during our summer vacations. The rooms are nicely decorated and most of them have really nice view to the Agali beach, except 2 of the hotel rooms which are located to the ground floor just in front of the bar/dinning area. As a result you have no privacy at all as you are forced to have the shutters closed all the time. This is probably why they serve breakfast between 9.00 – 11.00. The people who run the place are very kind and helpful, but for a very strange reason the service at the bar/dinning area is dreadful, especially if the young kid “Thanasis” is not around, then you will probably sit there for hours waiting for someone to come and take an order and when this happens you will wait for a very long time for your order to come.
The air-conditioning filters in our room haven’t probably been cleaned since their installation date, as a result the smell coming out of it when it was turned on, was unbearable.
Korres products changed once in a week.
Breakfast is a joke, it consists of a coffee, 1 croissant every 2 persons, bread , butter and jam.
It is by far the most expensive hotel in the Agali bay and besides it stylish look we could not find anything that would justify their room rates.

We have just come back from Blue Sand Hotel after spending a week there. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. Our room was clean, spacious and elegantly decorated!! It had a lovely balcony overlooking Agali bay which is one of the nicest beaches on the island of Folegandros. A big plus is that there are stairs from the hotel leading directly to the beach and the staff also provide you with sun chairs, umbrellas and towels. Its a family-run hotel so there is a nicer feel to your stay.
I definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Folegandros and my personal opinion is that its much better to stay in Agali bay where you have the sea on your doorstep rather than staying in the Chora.

We stayed here in a 'junior suite' for 3 nights on our honeymoon and really enjoyed it. We spent a bit more than we would have like to, but their availability was that or a single room. The room was very nice and had nice little sitting area, a nice bathroom, and a nice terrace (with a great view). We're glad we went with the junior suite.

The hotel is run by brothers and sisters, and they really work hard to make your experience pleasant. They helped us out with recommendations to which beaches would be nice, where to rent a scooter, etc. I saw another review that said they didn't speak English, and have no idea what that person was talking about. Also, the breakfast on the patio every day was fantastic.

You should make sure you understand that this hotel is located in Agali Bay, which isn't the main village. Some people may not like this. Agali Bay has a few restaurants, but doesn't have a supermarket or anything like that. The positive side of this is that Agali Bay is a nice secluded beach spot, and we really enjoyed it. We loved falling asleep and waking up to the sounds of the waves every day, which you will not get in Chora. You are probably going to want to rent a scooter or something to get around the island no matter where you stay, which is what we did. We cruised around to beaches during the day and would scoot over to Chora for dinner and then back to Agali Bay for some wine on our terrace.

We loved this place!

We stayed at the Blue Sands Hotel for 3 nights and we had a really fantastic stay. We were looking for a small quiet boutique hotel on this rugged yet beautiful island with a great beach and this is what we got. The staff went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable as possible and Katherina gave great recommendations for the island. Breakfast on the terrace with a stunning view of the bay below were delicious and the daily cappuccinos were great. The hotel is decorated in a beach chic minimalist style that really suits it. The rooms are air conditioned which cam e in handy in the heat. The best is to hire a car and explore the beaches around the island but be warned the roads are not the best.

Thanks again for a great stay.

First off, please ignore the previous review. That person provided no context so I wouldn't even be surprised if they haven't even been to Folegrandros, yet alone Blue Sand. My wife and I stayed at Blue Sand in early June for 3 days. We spent 2 weeks in Italy and Greece and Blue Sand was the nicest hotel and had the best service out of our entire trip.

Location:
The location is the best part about the hotel if you are looking for a relaxing beach vacation. Unlike most hotels in Folegandros, Blue Sand is in Angali Bay and NOT in Chora. Chora is great if you are looking for restaurants and shops, but if you want to get to most beaches, you have to come to Angali Bay. Blue Sand overlooks the beach and bay which is beautiful to wake up to every morning. From Angali Bay, you can hike to many other beaches, including in my opinion the best beach, Ag Nikolas, which is just about 15 minutes away on foot. The only downfall to Angali Bay are restaurants. There are a few tavernas that looked great. We had lunch at Ag Nikolas one day which was very good. However, we ended up renting a car for about $35 per day and drove to Chora every night for dinner. (10 minute drive) We also drove to Ano Maria for lunch twice which you MUST do (Mimi's and Maria's were amazing). But since our stay revolved around beaches, hiking, and swimming, we definitely preferred to stay in Angali Bay and drive to dinner in Chora (and not the other way around).

Rooms
Our room was amazing. It classic Greece. White, simple, and beautiful. We had windows all around the room that looked out to the bay, ocean, and mountains. We had patio with a table an two chairs that was perfect to share a bottle of wine before dinner. The bed was a king bed and was very comfortable. The bathroom was very nice as well.

Service
The service here separated it from all other hotels we have stayed at. They went out of the way to make our stay memorable. When we realized we needed a rental car, they called one for us and had them deliver the car to the hotel instead of us having to go into Chora or the port for it. Breakfast everyone morning was wonderful! The fresh breads, croissants, and jams were excellent and we'll never forget our greek yogurt, fresh fruit, and honey. They serve it to you on their main patio that overlooks the bay. I saw others with more elaborate breakfast so I think you can order whatever you want, but we were extremely happy with the breads, fruit, and yogurt. They had complementary beach chairs, towels, and umbrellas we could take with us to the beach which was a nice plus.

If you want an amazing, relaxing beach vacation come to Folegandros and stay at Blue Sand hotel. Hike the island and explore the beaches. Eat lunch at Mimi's and Maria's in Ano Maria (get the local dish Matsata) and eat dinner in Chora at Restaurant Chic and Spitia (I believe that's what it's called). O'Kritos was also good, but not as good as the other two. Sweet Chora is a great place to get dessert and we ate there every night during our trip!

We stayed in Folegandros for 5 nights and we must say that Blue Sand was the best choice we could make. Its location is probably its strongest card. Apart from that, the rooms are comfortable (especially the beds) , with Korres products and all of them with a great view. The architecture is modern cycladic and it fits the landscape entirely. The family that runs the hotel is extra helpful and polite and breakfast is delicious - don't forget to try the omelette!!!! You can even have free sunbeds and umbrellas for the beach and order your coffee at the beach ..how cool is that??
Well, if you compare the hotel with hotels in other Greek islands it looks expensive but for Folegandros, which is generally expensive when it comes to accomodation and car rentals, the prices are normal (the food and the drinks in the island are cheap though).

We fell in love with the island and we will definitely visit it again...We hope that once more our base will be Blue Sand!
