I have stayed 3 days in Casa Vitae with my wife and another couple. The hotel is beautiful with big, comfortable and very nice rooms with jacuzzi. The staff is always ready and very kind and the answer to whatever you may need is "yes, of course".
If you go to Rethymnon don't doubt: this is the place to stay!.

Okay, you've read the reviews and you already know that you are going to be very pleased that you chose the beautiful Casa Vitae for your stay in lovely Crete. So, let me try to add something to what has already been said.

We booked a 2 night stay at Casa Vitae over the internet just the day before arriving. (From the ferry - isn't science amazing?). We arrived in Rethymno by bus and found our way to the hotel with no difficulty. Just head towards the "Fortezza" (The huge fort that you can't miss) and then follow the signs into "Old Town". It's about a ten minute walk.

When we arrived, we were informed by Maria that we had been upgraded from a "Superior Double" to a "Junior Suite". With the much needed cool drink offered, that was a very nice welcome.

Casa Vitae is perfectly located for pleasant strolls through the beautiful Rethymno Old Town. Whilst it is moments from the shops and just minutes from the centre of the town, it is located in a residential street that is quiet and pretty.

I could go on about how beautiful this hotel is but, as always, it is the management and staff that make for a great experience. Angelica, the owner, and Maria and Jana (sp?), not to mention the cleaning staff who slipped in and out to clean our room with no fuss, made our stay magical.

Anything (and more) that we asked for was provided with an absolute minimum of fuss.

We loved this hotel, Rethymno and Crete so much that we extended our stay to six nights.

Some examples of the level of caring and service.

When we first arrived we asked Maria where we could find a laundromat. Without a blink she said "No problems, give it to me, we will do it - no charge". Have you ever had that happen at any other hotel? We certainly haven't. The next day our clothes came back clean and folded.

Maria took us under her wing and became our personal tour organizer. She spent as much time as needed to find out the types of things that we wanted to do and see and then made excellent recommendations. She patiently showed us on the maps how to get to everything. Listen and follow her restaurant recommendations. I will be writing reviews of Orthonas and Prima Plora later.

After a couple of days exploring Rethymno, we decided that we would like to rent a car for a couple of days to explore Crete. When we asked Jana where to rent a car she just picked up the phone and literally within 5 minutes had organised a car to be delivered to the hotel the next morning. Furthermore, she negotiated a discounted rate. When we later decided that we would like to keep the car for a third day it was no problem - a phone call and we had the car for the third day at an even cheaper rate. At the end of the rental we just had to park the car and hand the keys in to the hotel reception. This is service with a capital "S".

A particularly memorable night. We were sitting on our private deck just enjoying the evening when Angelica came out and we had a chat. While we were chatting, she arranged for the staff to bring us a (complimentary) iced tea that was perfectly refreshing. Then her cousin who lives next door came out onto his deck and Angelica asked him to play his Bazouki and sing for us. Angelica disappeared and sent up two glasses of red wine for us to relax with while we enjoyed the romance of being serenaded gently by the bazouki and Greek songs. You can't buy experiences like that. It's a memory that will stay with us forever.

You will note the heading of my review and I guess I owe you an explanation.

Maria is special. She clearly loves her job, loves meeting people and loves making their stay special. She speaks excellent English (as do all the staff that we met) and is a "livewire". We dubbed her "Crazy Maria" simple because she is - in the best possible way. Always ready for a joke and a laugh. Maria's breakfasts are unbelievable. Just when you are feeling totally full from the selection of cereals, yoghurt, pastries, cakes and fruit she arrives with her specialty of the day - usually an omelette or scrambled eggs, filled with ham, tomatoes etc.

Maria clearly loves romance. On one memorable morning we arrived to breakfast to find our breakfast table covered with candles. Our omelette that morning had a tomato sauce heart painted on it.

We enjoyed our stay enormously as I am sure you will. This hotel comes with my highest recommendation.

Just got back from a couple of VERY lovely days at Casa Vitae. This hotel is completely charming, the staff is extremely helpful and welcoming and the area is a perfect access point to other things in the town while still being a quiet oasis. We spent every night out in the beautiful courtyard and I find myself still thinking of how comfortable and friendly the other guests and hotel owner/staff were as our family played cards and drank into the night. The feel here is much more of a nice bed and breakfast than your stock hotel. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in Rethymnon.

What a lovely find. In the Old Town of Rethymnon. Charming rooms in garden setting. The hosts are most gracious taking those extra steps to make for an extraordinary sojourn. The owner...and her staff, Yanna and Maria, and others welcome you in the Crete tradition.(Yanna greeting us at 1 a.m. after our arrival from a late ferry) And the afternoons over the the wine in the garden...singing, serenading and marvelous hospitality...make for treasured moments.

This was our first trip to Greece, and the first hotel we stayed at in Crete. I can only say that staying at Casa Vitae set our expectations for the rest of the trip to a very high level.
This hotel was fantastic: very welcoming and friendly staff, beautiful and super-clean room with complimentary coffee/tea, biscuits and a bottle of water. Bath robes were also provided. The building is beautiful and well maintained. The courtyard, where breakfast was also served, was relaxing with the fish pond and well behaved cats that waited patiently for treats. Every good comment you read here is true. We loved the place and we loved the fact that everything we wanted to see in the city was reachable by foot (the fortress, a beach, the port, and of course the old city with the many shops, coffee places, bars, and restaurants).
The only comment we have is regarding the funny shower capsule (we stayed in one of the beautiful double rooms). Not that it ruined anything, but it was rather a source for a few laughs.
If you arrive by car, look for the police station square, adjacent to the fortress. Parking there is free and safe (according to the hotel staff).

Room Tip: All rooms are beutiful

Stayed here 2 nights and had an enjoyable break in quiet surroundings. Close to the fortress and easy walking to any of the restaurants in the old town. Our room had a firm queen size bed on the first floor with a jacuzzi bath. It also had a kettle with bottled water, tea and coffee plus a small fridge.
Breakfast was a set menu but you could choose your style of eggs - the omelets were enormous!
The staff were very helpful with good suggestions for restaurants.
If you arrive by car it is best to park near the police station.

Room Tip: The hotel faces a residential street so all rooms are quiet.

By far the best place we stayed in Greece! From the moment we walked in to this beautiful Inn and were greeting so warmly we knew we struck Greek gold. We felt immediately part of this warm family and we can't tell you how much we loved it. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was roomy and we enjoyed our jacuzzi tub. Make time to sit and relax over breakfast in the courtyard....listen to the bells of the church and the birds chirping while enjoying the fresh breakfast. Wish we would have spent a few more days there! The location is perfect....

Room Tip: We had the king bedroom with a canopy....it was quiet and the colors were very relaxing....The bed w...
