We recently stayed at the Medusa Hotel for just a couple of nights, 3 nights to be exact.
We were on a short stay on the beautiful island of Crete and needed to stay in the resort of Rethymno as we had wedding business to deal with in that area.
As it was out of season (1st week of April) we weren't expecting the earth so on arriving and parking quite easily right outside we walked in to find locked doors. There was a sign on the door stating that if nobody was around we needed to call the number, we only had our mobiles which weren't registered to use abroad due to previous high bills on trips. There was a pay phone just outside the hotel but you need phone cards for all the phones on the island of Crete, after wandering and walking for over 30 mins we couldn't find anyone selling phone cards. Only by chance we found a travel agency who very kindly let us use their telephone to call the number on which we were told somebody would be at the door to let us in in 2 mins (albeit we were around a 10-15min walk away by now) and when we finally got to the hotel we were still stuck outside with nobody in sight. We were only let in when another guest was leaving so we were able to gain entry only to find out that everybody was on the top floor of the hotel doing maintenance (including receptionist).
We finally checked in, room 203, lovely sea view (which we paid extra for) and got unpacked and headed out for lunch. It wasn't until that evening we realised that there was just 2 other rooms being used and they were 202 and 204 (either side of us) in which the woman in 202 spent most of the early hours talking loudly on her phone and kept us awake!
We then had a problem with our toilet, it wouldn't flush after the first day for the remaining 2 days, for most of the day their was absolutely nobody about to complain too, luckily all the other empty rooms on our floor were left open so we were able to use a working toilet in one of those (not ideal)
The pool wasn't yet ready for use and was full of green, littered water which looked absolutely disgusting!
One positive was the cleanliness!
This hotel may be much better in peak season but we won't be back to find out I'm afraid ...
