Just spent a week staying at Casa De Delfini. We cannot rate it highly enough. The owners and their architect son have created a stunning hotel by renovating a Venetian town house to a very high standard, which is full of character and charm. There are two rooms downstairs, two on the next floor with little balconies overlooking the beautiful little courtyard, and an apartment on the top floor. The downstairs rooms are a little on the dark side. We spent two nights in room one and then at our request Katrina moved us up to the 1st floor. All the rooms are self catering with little kitchenettes and ensuite bathrooms. I was so impressed by how clean and well presented the rooms were kept with daily fresh towels and maid service. We had stayed the previous week at a luxury 5 star hotel on the East coast of Crete so had been prepared to feel a bit of a come down when we arrived at this second weeks hotel, however not at all. Casa De Delfini is simply very high class and we felt very lucky to have stayed there. The old town is car free which is great. there is free parking a short walk away. Katrina the owner could not have been more friendly and helpful. She knows so much about the area and advised us on some fabulous places to visit in our hire car and where to park. My suitcase handle broke and when we were leaving she kindly strapped my case on her bike and wheeled it to our car. Nothing was too much trouble. Rethynmon itself is not an attractive town, but the old town is fabulous with briliant places to eat. We spent the evenings there and otherwise were out and about exploring the area. We will definitely go back next time we are in Crete.

Room Tip: One of the upstairs rooms is best as the downstairs rooms are quite dark.

We actually travelled in September 2012 (not 2013) - the hotel is located in Rethymno's old town, which is closed to non-resident vehicles....however Casa dei Delfini is located quite close to the car park... the property itself is nicely decorated, and the owner was very helpful... including when we ended up locking ourselves out of the room....the breakfast was good too...

I am a little late with this review, my apologies Katerina!
We stayed here for Easter 2013 and what a fantastic time we had. We were so comfortable in our top floor apartment and made to feel so welcome from the moment we entered that delightful courtyard. I can only repeat what other reviewers have already said with extra stress on the filoxenia. Many many thanks Katerina and your family for giving us a taste of the real Crete, unforgetable!

Room Tip: Don't hesitate.

We stayed here for two nights in mid-October in room 3. This is an upstairs room with a small balcony, and a bathroom which is full of character. The bed was super comfortable. The location is fab - a two-minute walk to the waterfront, and easy walking distance to any number of restaurants. Given its proximity to the hub, we were worried that it would be noisy at night - however, it was very peaceful. The owner is very friendly and welcoming. Rethymno Old Town is full of character, and perfect for a relaxing wander round the winding streets. The fort is worth a trip for the views it gives of the city, and I'd recommend the Lemon Tree restaurant nearby for its authentic Cretan cuisine. We had a hire car and parked it in the free parking area next to the football stadium, a five minute walk away. Would highly recommend both this hotel and a visit to the area.

Our party of two stayed a night at this hotel in the beginning of October and really loved it! It's located in the Old Town and is an incredibly beautiful hotel with excellent rooms and a nice, helpful owner that met us at the door when we arrived. The beds were supremely comfortable, the bathroom was amazing and overall we quite enjoyed our stay! The hotel is also in a great location - we could easily get there from the bus station and to find a good restaurant we only had to walk for a few minutes through the winding streets. We really recommend this place!

Room Tip: All the rooms are special! If you want to be able to keep your windows uncovered, however, don't choose a room at the first floor as the floor-to-ceiling windows open up to street level.
