We have just got back from staying a week in this hotel.
Do not be put off by the remarks that people have made about it.
The breakfast was brilliant, so much choice, it was buffet style and you could have what ever you wanted.
We had a room opposite basket ball or netball ground, ok a bit noisey but it didn't go all night long, it was lovely to watch the kids play and it kept them off the street.
A very clean hotel, with friendly staff all though, ok not many English there but hey oh you are in a foreign country I wasn't bothered about that we just did our own thing.
A lovely roof top where you could have a drink lovely lady serving you.
I would go back to this hotel near old town and bus station, please email me if you want to ask anything.

Brascos Hotel in Rethymnon is well located if you'd rather stay near the beautiful old town and all the hustle and bustle but that's where all the good things about this hotel end.

IT IS NOT A 3 STAR HOTEL! Not by any standards. I was very disappointed when I discovered (I arrived at the venue at 4am and was desperate for a long bath) that there was no bath and the shower was tiny and really awkward in use. The furniture was ugly and very basic. Another source of disappointment was the food - the most basic breakfast you can imagine. When I asked for some tomato, the waiter simply said they didn't have any and so I had my pathetic piece of bread with feta cheese, a slice of cheap, synthetic cheese and an olive.

I didn't dare to try the pool, but the roof garden was quite OK. They do 50% off between 9 and 10pm and the barmaid was great.

My advice - DO NOT STAY AT BRASCOS unless you want to feel disappointed!

We had a very pleasant stay at the Brascos. Clean and pleasant. Helpful staff. Room was on the small side, but it was big enough. We had a 5th floor room with nice view overlooking the city. Would recommend that you request a higher room as there is a lot of street noise in Rethymnon well into the night. Small cafe on the 1st floor is convenient. Continental breakfast was quite good. Overall this is a very good hotel and outstanding value for the cost.

We were staying at Brascos htl for a week. We came from Her. airport by taxi. First we got a room next to Moatsou Street and it was very noisy all the time. We asked for better location of the room - and we got it. We had a view on city park and a basketball playground. They were playing late at night, no wonder that Greeks are evrochampions!
Room was clean, fresh towels etc. No liquid soap, bring yours with you.
Food was ok - not excelent, but fresh, crete diet. Only dinners were a little boaring. Most people only had breakfast, so for the first time we ate alone at a hotel - and we travel quite a lot. The staff was very kind!
The hotel has excellent position like you can see in previous reviews. Parking place is across the street, bus station is 10 minutes away and a lot of comfortable busses run every hour to Hania and Heraklion. To other places not so often, but you can use public transport quite well. We traveled to Hania, Agia Galini, Preveli Monastery, Kastelli, Bali. At Bali we had first swimming, it was the 1st of May. Cold but wonderful!
Rethymno is really something - old city with a soul. We like it more than Hania which is very commercial and overcrowded even in spring. I recommend you to stay in Rethymno, it's a good base to research West Crete.
Yasas!

We returned from this hotel in Aug 2006 after a very stressfull week. This was mainly due to the travel information we received from the booking, or lack of!
Once we arrived at our drop off point to the hotel we realised that we were in fact in the middle of nowhere. We were asked to get off the bus at 1.00 am in the pitch black & was expected to make our own way to the hotel !!! which we were obviously not expecting. After pleading with the bus driver who spoke very little english he called a taxi for us which then took us to our hotel.
On arrival, the lifts we out of order & with our rooms being on the 5th floor we had to carry our cases up the spiral staircase ourselves. We had asked for rooms next to each other but instead we were 2 rooms apart & facing the road which meant there was quite alot of noise during the night.
The rooms were very basic but clean. Shower constantly flooded but nothing was done even after repeatedly asked to be fixed.
The pool is extremely small & FREEZING! The pool was also on the main road with people always looking down at you.
The food was AWFULL. In breakfast we had to pay 1euro for butter as it was not provided! Ate at the hotel twice in the evening which was discusting eachtime, either cold, not cooked enough or just yuck! This hotel does not cater for the english. In fact they dont like the english at all!
The resort its self was ok, very traditionall but pleasant. The beach is a 25minute walk away but when you get there is it lovely. All the bars & resturants along the beach are lovely.
When our stay was coming to an end we checked with the hotel what time we were being collected, & to our horror they knew nothing about it. So we had to spend a whole day ringing thomson & looking for a thomson hotel / rep (we found a hotel but no rep!) we were told that they had 'forgotten' about us! so luckily we 'reminded' them (!) & they came to collect us to take us to the airport, but not from the hotel, we had to pay a taxi to take us to a collection point which cost us 15euros!
All in all i would recommend rethymnon for a lovely traditional greek holiday but AVOID this hotel.

I have just returned from a two week stay at Hotel Brascos, Rethymno. The location is excellent, in the centre of Rethymno, close to the public bus station, taxi rank and municipal park. A short walk takes you into the heart of the old town. I found the service above avarage and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The room was basic but comfortable and always kept clean and tidy. The street facing room could be a bit noisy at night with scooters. For the very reasonably priced room rates I found this to be an excellent base for exploring Rethymno and the rest of this wonderful island.

  • Liked — Excellent location
  • Disliked — A bit noisy with traffic at night
