“Good service/location but poor rooms & misleading website”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

We booked a special offer through their website so got a good price but would be very annoyed if we had paid full price (€120) for the "superior" room we were given.
Location is very good (in middle of old town laneways) and front desk service is friendly & efficient but the room was a massive disappointment.
Based on their website (and reviews here), I had planned on a quality, romantic hotel for our last night in Crete. Unfortunately the room was very tired, poorly designed & maintained (though clean).
Tiny, outdated bathroom with loose fittings, no fan, shower too small to turn or stand up straight in. 30yr old, tiny tube TV bracketed to the wall, with very little reception. We hadn't planned to use the kitchenette, luckily as again it is very tired, 30yr old appliances with a fridge that didn't work. Beds were very uncomfortable with 2ft thick, rock hard pillows.
I know this is standard in many places & I maybe should have asked but a hotel that specifically markets itself as romantic/boutique should offer the option of a double bed in your superior room, not too bloody singles with separate linen which you have to push together in order to sleep with your partner.
Also the room window overlooks the courtyard/pool which you might think is nice but you are literally feet away from the heads of people sitting in the courtyard so you can't really open your curtains/shutters. The people outside would be watching your staticy TV (and you getting changed, etc)!
Overall, due to the disappointing room which bore no resemblance to the rooms described/pictured on the website, this place is anything but boutique/romantic. I would equate the "superior" room to the private rooms you sometimes get in traveller hostels. Which is great for €30 a night but not if paying €100 for a boutique hotel room. I would not like to see a less "superior" room. If you get a 50% deal on their website as we did and realise what type of room you are getting, fine but don't expect luxury (maybe in their swankier sister hotel, Rimondi Estate, across the laneway). We were staying just one night but I would not have stayed longer in that room anyway.

We enjoyed the Palazzo Rimondi during our Easter 2013 vacation. We were there one week, and thoroughly enjoyed the city and the wonderful staff at this hotel. Eleni and Maria constantly went above and beyond to serve every customer. They are never without a smile and gave us many helpful tips to enjoy the surrounding countryside. Maria in particular gave us many great tips for villages to visit, and any request we had, she would right away complete it! The breakfast was fantastic, the hotel was very clean and in a perfect location, the courtyard was so beautiful, that we even had requests from local students to take pictures of them in front of the pool as they were on the way to the bars!
the only thing small complaint we had was with the smell in one of the rooms, which is magnified by the rain - as our room was on the first floor I believe that had to do with the sewer system running through the old city. But upon notifying them of the situation we were able to change rooms immediately, also to another first floor room that smelled much better.
After some horror stories on our last few trips to other countries, This hotel and the excellent customer service was a very nice surprise!

We have been to Rethymnon many times and have mainly stayed outside the town and travelled in. We have often looked at the Palazzo Rimondi whilst walking the lovely narrow streets of the old town and thought that it would be a great place to stay right in the thick of things, we were not disappointed.
The owner and all his staff could not have been more welcoming and made us feel instantly at home. The young lady who was on reception and then served us breakfast next morning(sorry did not write her name down) was probably the most enthusuastic, cheerful, proud and happiest in her job person that we have ever had the pleasure of looking after us in a hotel.
The room we had was on the first floor and was an extremely comfortable duplex room with a small terrace and a lovely domed ceiling in the bathroom, very atmospheric and in keeping with the building with lots of exposed stone and marble throughout.
Breakfast was great, served in the outside courtyard by the plunge pool, lots of choice with local produce and served with a smile.
So for location, atmosphere and fantastic service in what is in my opinion the nicest town on Crete I would recommend Palazzo Rimondi.

We visited this awesome place, called Palazzo Rimondi during the carnival this time. It was even better. We were warmly welcomed. It feels like home there, only that you are served and have everything at your hand within seconds!!! The rooms are fully equipped and you have this sense of relaxation. I'll keep on writing about this place and believe me, I' ll keep on recommending it as long as I live.It is situated in the heart of the old town and its ambiance is in accordance with that of the lod town. It is a place that you mustn't miss for any reason whatsoever. Of course, I wouldn't fail to mention about its exraordinary breakfast and not only.....

What a wonderful find! Great location, beautiful decor and fantastic service. The staff treated us like Kings and Queens. The food in was delicious and the rooms were very comfortable. This was the best sleep I had on my trip to Greece. It was a great place to spend a few days in Crete and I hope I have the chance to come back again.

We were recomended this hotel by a friend, when we arrived in Rethymon we were met off our coach by one of the hotel staff who led us a short distance down a labrinth of little streets past some of the most beautiful charming buildings we had seen, we were in the heart of the old city and then we came to our hotel , we were delighted it was charming and romantic with a loverly courtyard we were taken to our room which was clean and typical for Crete we had a living room small kitchen and bathroom and then up some stairs to our bedroom which had a balcony overlooking the roof tops of the old town and to the hills beyond ,the staff were more than helpful, the breakfast was great with a lot to choose from, a lovely hotel in a lovely place .we now recommend this hotel to our friends
