Jo-An Palace (not to mix with Jo-An Beach!) is situated in the very centre of Rethymno and is not for only-beach-lovers. It takes 10-15 minutes walk to the beach. But if you want to have a versatile mixture of history, strolling through narrows Old Town streets, romantic night-life, morning shopping and sandy beach - that's exactly for you. If you don't want to hire a car (numerous propositions), bus station is 10 minutes from the hotel.

Just advise to take a room not into the street (which can be noisy up to midnight) and you'll feel good. Helas, my rooms conditioner was too old and it winded straight in to the beds.

Staff is professional and very helpful. And the cuisine was formidable - every day breakfast and dinner offered different menu in the buffet and the chief was a real master to combine Greek food with other cultures. It is financially (and for the taste) worth not to go out for a dinner (maybe just for the sake of interest) but to stay here. If it is not worth 4 stars, 3+ by no doubts. It was a real pleasure to stay here.

Friendly and helpful staff. Situated in busy road, had balcony overlooking but no problem - in fact very interesting to watch. Doors double glazed which kept most of the noise out. Individual Remote control Air-con - brilliant. Safe cost 15 euros for one week. Small fridge included at no extra charge.

Food was excellent, buffet included a cooked breakfast every morning + usual continental breakfast. Evening meal was varied only had one bland meal. Meat was cooked well and tender. Sweets a little bit unusual but ok, there was always water melon slices. Drinks reasonable prices.

Roof top pool small but always in the sun and was adequate, free sunbeds. Good views all around.

Ideal situated for going to the old town and the beach. But watch the traffic.

Jo An Beach Aparthotel is a small friendly hotel in a very good locationi in Adelianos Kampos, nr Rethymnon. Rethymnon is interesting for a visit, lots to do and see. Adelianos Kampos is a small place but has good restaurants and bars, which are fun but not full of noisy lager louts, British or otherwise. The beach is very close and shallow, good for children to play on. The staff were very helpful and sorted any problems quickly and without any fuss. Apartments were small but clean and well appointed. Better not to be too near the main road at the front because it can be noisy but it didnt bother us too much. Downsides: the main road, noisy music but only until 12pm, not much entertainment but there are other places nearby. Don't advise all inclusive as we weren;t very impressed with the hotel food or service in the restaurant the first night when we went there. I'd consider going back, for the beach alone but overall we liked it very much. The quieter end of Crete is certainly worth a visit but beware of the roads if driving as they can be dangerous.

Just back from a lovely, two-week stay at Jo-An Beach in Adelianos Kampos (the beautiful, large town of Rethymno is actually about 8km away - but only 8 euros in a taxi).
We were staying in a two-bedroomed apartment on a self-catering basis. The apartment itself was very nice (clean and spacious with a big balcony and lovely views of the nearby beach). However, the self-catering facilities were fairly basic and if you have any thoughts of preparing a meal in the apartment, then you will find it very difficult! We ended up keeping just the necessary basics for breakfasts and lunches in the apartment, (there are good, well-stocked supermarkets nearby where you can buy all that you need for your stay, and all the locals were really very, very friendly). There is such a profusion of excellent tavernas nearby that going out to eat in the evening was not a problem (in fact, it became a very enjoyable part of the day). We were really very glad that we hadn't booked ourselves on an all inclusive basis - you would definitely miss out!! Make sure that you go to The White Lady for their fantastic Cretan/Greek evening of dance - a great night out for all the family!! I would certainly recommend Crete to anyone looking for a great holiday, and would have no hesitation in recommending Jo-An Beach - it's superb location, friendly atmosphere and good facilities make it at excellent choice for families.

We stayed at the jo-an beach hotel at the end of August 2006 booked through the internet with JMC on a half board basis. The family consisted of two adults and three children. The appartment we were allocated was spacious and in a good situation. The swimming pool is on the small side, but ideally located close to the beach and friendly beach bar. The beach was predominately shingle with large uneven rock shelves beneath the sea, unlike the very sandy beach in Rethymon.
The Jo-An Beach Hotel is situated in a quiet outskirt, 6km away from Rethymon, but does have some excellent and welcoming bars. Tasos Bar is highly recommended.
All in all we had a good holiday. Here comes the but! The resturant food left a lot to be desired, We couldn't find anything to eat at breakfast or dinner so we ended up eating out all the time. The evening entertainment was fairly non existent so again we had to go out elsewhere.

We was in this hotel in september 2005. It's wonderful, because the sea is at all near the hotel - 60 m maximum. The preety small houses, preety big balcons, the public is very sweetheart and quiet. Good breakfast and dinner.
Shortcoming: not good swimming pool, very small. It's difficult to entry in sea (the rocks), but it is no problem - you can buy the very good slippers for swim in the nearest village (6 euro).
But if you wont a rich night life - it is not here. This very cozy agreeable hotel - for loving couple or for couple with children.
Have a nice holiday!
