Location isn’t maybe the most appealing as it’s not by a romantic back alley, but by the busy road. However, food is good and the place seems to be frequented also by locals, so an experience of qreek living also here at offer.

It was a very good surprise to stumble upon this little Greek taverna just 2 steps away from the most touristic restaurant area in Rethymno.

There’s no fancy menu with many sofisticated dishes, in fact there’s no menu at all. You’re welcome to go to the kitchen and have a look at the dishes that were cooked on the day. I got the impression that the food varies every day.

Even not being Greek I can say that this food tasted like home. Excellent taste, generous portions at a great price.

I certainly recommend this restaurant to everyone who’s looking for a Greek experience that other touristy oriented restaurants just can’t offer.

The food was freshly prepared and tasty. The atmosphere very relaxed. There is no menu but they welcome you into the cooking area to choose from up to 8 dishes...both meat and vegetarian. Excellent.

Positives
The kitchen is right there as is Maria
She cooks the 3-4 dishes for the evening
That’s the choice
It tastes great
And generous too
And cheap

The locals eat here

Negatives
It’s on a bit of a busy road
But life is a pizza
Unless you make it yourself, it’s all a bit of a compromise

Go again?
Yes

We ate here a few times during our two week vacation. Typical meals were spaghetti bolognaise, chicken and pepper stew, beef stifado, pork casserole, pork chop and homemade chips. Vegetarian options were available such as a delicious bean, potato and courgette dish, stuffed peppers and lentils. It’s best not to go too late at night as a lot of the freshly prepared food is consumed at lunchtime. This taverna is very small and was recommended by a local and used by locals. There isn’t a menu, you just look in the kitchen to see what has been cooked that day. Meals for two with wine and water were always well under 20 euros. Most of the seating is in the street.
