“really oldey worldy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2013

Well worth the walk to the old venetian town. Lots of small passages, with stunning hanging baskets. Taverna's spill out onto the pavements, and some areas are a hive of activity. Lots of lovely shops, some designer but also some good tourist shops. Not much tat thankfully!

“Nice old town with the standard tourist bits”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 17, 2013

Getting into Reythmon can be interesting if you are driving, luckily police driver training meant I was well suited to the Greek driving habits! Good and cheap car park right by the harbour, always found space there and 2.30€ for 3 hours. Some very good Tavernas right on the doorstep by the car park, with lovely sea views.
In the old town there are the standard touristy shops, with Real Cartier watches being sold opposite those advertised as fake. Overall very pleasant with lots to see, the old Fort was interesting, and so would the Archaeoligical museum have been if it had been open on a Monday.
If you like proper Ice Cream a lovely shop in the corner of the old town, real orange ice cream, great

“Beautiful town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2013

This is a lovely town with quaint old town streets and full of mostly, tasteful tourist shops. the restaurants are bit on the pricey side by the harbour but this is to be expected in a tourist resort! We drove here several days/ evenings and found getting around very easy. Boat trips available but aware if you get sea sick - pirate ship quite rough!

“A great place to visit. Lovely harbour. Ignore the market.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2013

Visited twice in August 2013. A good range of shops, cafes and bars. Lovely to have a drink next to the harbour. Oddly they don't seem to have realised yet that those "fish nibbling your feet" places are doomed and there are about 10 of them dotted around.

There are also lots of fur shops which seems a little odd in 30 degree heat. Ignore the market unless you are staying locally and are self catering. It has great range of fresh fruit and veg at good prices but apart from this only sells tacky and cheap copies of branded goods, avoid.

“A must!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2013

Don't leave Crete without visiting Rethymno, its old town with Turkish remains, shops, restaurants and travel agencies. At the entrance, on the road, there is a Tavern with tables over the sea, stop the car there and enjoy a nice lunch overlooking the blue waters!
