We've recently returned from a 2 week holiday in Rethymno staying at the Astali Hotel (last 2 weeks in June) travelling with Thomson on a B&B package. We'd read the reviews on here before going and felt that the hotel had a lot to live up to.......and it certainly did!
Positives:
Lovely owners who welcomed with a smile everytime and a "Kalimera" or "Kalispera".
The breakfasts which are simple but just perfect, my favourite being the Greek yoghurt with peach halves.
The other guests; we don't usually mix with other guests but this hotel seems to attract some very nice people. Everyone gathered in the bar of an evening to watch the Football (Euros) and Krisanthi would come round with Ice cream or other treats. I enjoyed the football banter with Yanis whose knowledge of football is immense.
The hustle and bustle and street noise; I didn't know so many different things could be carried on a scooter!
The close proximity to the beach and old town and tavernas.
The rooms which are simple and very clean with daily cleaning and regular changing of sheets and towels by the very pleasant cleaning staff.
Negatives: None
Would definitely go back.

This family run hotel is a great place to stay. It is located only one block from the beach and is an easy walk to the old town of Rethymno. The hosts are absolutely excellent and cannot do enough to help you. The rooms are very clean and the restaurant and bar areas (inside and out) are extremely comfortable. Very relaxing to sit in after a day of exploring the island.
We can't recommend this hotel highly enough. It definitely helped make our stay in Rethymno even more enjoyable and when we return to Crete we will be returning to Astali Hotel for our accommodation.

Just returned from a week in Rethymno at the Astali Hotel. Thanks to the owners and staff of the hotel, we felt as if we were staying in a great place with friends; not just at a hotel. Had loads of laughs and fun with the owners and learned more about Greece and Rethmno than you could from any book or tour. We got great recommendations on trips, sights, local events, restaurants, etc. The hotel was everything we expected - clean, well-run, and with all of the advertised amenities. We met repeat customers and heard of a legion of guests who return year-after-year. That really says it all.

If you want to visit Crete and stay in a clean, well-maintained, family-run hotel, then you cannot go wrong with the Astali Hotel in Rethymnon. And as a big bonus, you will also meet some wonderful people. Krisanthi, Marios, Yanis and Lena (excuse any spelling mistakes) were the best hosts! Nothing was too much trouble for any of them and after a few hours of lively conversations, we felt like we'd made some new friends, too. We would love to return one day and will definately keep in touch with a lovely group of people. There hotel deserves to be number 1!

We stayed at this hotel at the end of June for a week with Thompsons. The hotel is well situated both for the beach and for the old town. There are a total of thirty six rooms over three floors.
At the outside of the hotel there is a bar which is served from inside the hotel, this has a terrace area with tables and chairs, this goes around the corner of the hotel to an area with some sun loungers.
This is a town hotel so there is traffic around it, this is only to be expected.
Downstairs there is a twenty four hour a day manned reception desk. On from this is a lovely lounge/bar area and ajoining this is the breakfast area.
As well as stairs there is a small lift to all three floors.
Our room had two single beds, a dressing table and mirror and a table and chair. There was a large wardrobe with loads of hangers. The bathroom had no bath but a small shower, this was small but we got used to it.
Also in the room was a safe which was payable, a really good fridge and air conditioning which was exceptional, the room may have got warm in the afternoon but the air con soon dealt with it. We had a patio door which opened onto our balcony which overlooked the road. The road was busy but it was nice to people watch. When the patio door was closed the noise was well contained and we slept well.
By the way bedding and towels were changed on a very regular basis, it seemed like daily to me.
Breakfast was good and I had cereals and I loved the Greek yogourt and honey with the peach halves, there was a good selection of bread and preserves and lovely coffee.
May I say that I have never been in such a clean and well cared for hotel it really is a credit to the owners and speaking of the owners they are a lovely family and nothing seems too much trouble for them.
Would I go to this hotel again, yes I sure would. If I was in Rethymnon this is the hotel I would choose.
