We wanted the charm and atmosphere of the old town by the harbour. Pepi is well situated in the old town and just one street back from the harbour with its waterfront restaurants and bars. The old town is a maze of cobbled streets with plenty of good bars and restaurants to choose from. The old town has also kept plenty of traditional shops.
The organized (umbrellas and sun-beds) beach is a ten-minute stroll away. There are also plenty of bars and restaurants along the beach front.
As many other contributors have said, the staff at Pepi were excellent. They were very good at their job and nothing was too much trouble. The reception process took only moments and we were escorted to our room and given a quick teach-in about the room with useful stuff like how to operate the (free of charge) air-conditioning.
Our [superior] room was obviously recently and tastefully redecorated, it was spacious and spotlessly clean - as was the crockery, cutlery and refrigerator. The beds were made daily and the floor was also washed daily. Our towels and bed linen were changed regularly. There was also some nice attention to detail like the origami-style folding of towels into bows and rosebuds like you see in higher-end hotels. I know this isn’t essential but it gives you confidence that everyone at Pepi’s cares.
We didn’t actually do any cooking - always choosing to eat out, but it was good to have the facilities in the room to keep fruit juice, wine, beer…. .
It was good to see that the safe in the room was not charged extra.
The entrance to Pepi nestles alongside Bistro 22. It leads to a courtyard with palm trees and sun-beds. In front of the reception area is a small plunge pool for when the shade of the trees is not enough - it was 35 degrees when we were there.
The sun-beds are popular and while we were there, some people chose to spend their whole days on them.
All rooms seemed to have either a small terrace or table and chairs at their front doors which meant you could have drinks and meals al fresco.
We booked on a room-only basis. We had our first breakfast at Bistro 22. We tried another couple of places in the next two days but returned to Bistro 22 because it was the best breakfast place we found. The quality was very good, and had a good selection to choose from. The waiters were attentive and the atmosphere was good. Plenty of locals used it at all times of day, and the prices were very fair.
Value for money
Excellent. The studios were well above what we were expecting. We would most certainly come again.
Nothing to do with Pepi, but the only advice we can offer regards the old town is that sometimes its streets are closed to traffic so you could have a 200 metre walk along the cobbled street from the nearest drop-off point in the main car park. This happened to us but it really wasn’t a problem.
