“Youth Hostel Rethymno Oct2013”

It is hard to find a hostel in Crete let alone a good one.
The Hostel at Rythemno was very welcomed.
Centralized located but not on a busy street it has a nice balcony and garden and it is a good spot to meet other solo travelers.

The dorms though are too big and can be crowded when full and as others have wrote, there can be a little more security.

I' ve been in this hostel during 2 nights. The owner was very nice and helpfull.
It' s a cheaper hostel, has a good location, near the center and also near the beach.
If you want to find a good price, and only do you need one bed to can sleep, you should go there.
You can arrive to the bus station in 10 minutes y walk.

Room Tip: Rethymno is a tourist spot

oh my...i was just reading my diary and really got a nice feeling since i refreshed my memory as to what Rethymno Youth Hostel meant to me.

First of all i must say that Crete is so beautiful...amazing sceneries, food, surfing, live music, prices, people...it is Credise (Crete + Paradise)

This was my first time travelling by my self and i was not feeling 100% cool as in everything we do for the first time!

The place even though it is in the center...it is so quiet & lovely!

As soon as i arrived i felt closer to being 100% cool.

I met amazing people...French (Artouros french guy playing baglamas...omg), Canadians, Icelanders.

The place has 2 big balconies which are really nice since you meet people, even if you are the most closed person in the world. It feels as a home.

Sasha and Manolis the boss are polite, nice & friendly human beings from day one to day five.

"Sasha=Alexander welcomed me...a positive vibe emerged within me..."

The bathrooms, beds where very good for what you pay...the omelette for 2 euros made by Sasha would make my day!

Surely i will visit again soon...October when Crete is even nicer under the cloudy sky!:)

Room Tip: The rooms on the first floor are nicer in my opinion...you have a view of the church dome and a nice...

Excellent hostel in a good location in old town of Rethymnon, I stayed for 6+4 nights at the hostel and would for sure go back if I return to Rethymnon. It is Easy to meet people there. Sasha is a one of a kind hostelmangager (one of the best I have met), is all over the place, fun and friendly, but also let anyone know if the are out of line in any way, which is good. The rooms and toilets are basic, but clean. No AC in rooms, but if you find it to hot there is beds to sleep in on the roof.

Pros the manager Sasha is a sweet guy who is very helpful and the hostel was easy enough to meet ppl if you make the effort, it just as usual depends on the group too. The showers were spacious and i didnt have much of a prob with warm water(avoid the handheld ones and go into the main bathroom for the bigger ones with better water pressure) there's a huge supermarket across from the bus station hit that up before walking to the hostel

Cons
The rooms are cramped! the walls are soo thin you can clearly here wrappers being thrown away, the uncomfortable bunks don't have latters, NO A/C means in July it's really really hot unless you sleep on the roof, the bathrooms are located in a separate building from the rooms so if you get up like me to go early in the morning it's a bit if a pain.
All in all the facilities are mostly average (for a hostel) and the manager is a Nice guy. If you're on a very tight budget in Crete it's one of 2hostels to choose from. I wouldn't recommend rethymnon for more than 3 nts tops(if u don't have a car) the town is skip-able and the old town just a bunch of tourists shops, nothing special.

Room Tip: maybe get a bunk outside on the roof in the summer months to get some air!

This hostel is truly one of a kind. There is a true sense of community between the staff and travelers like I've never experienced before. Everyone gets to know one another and there is a great patio and common area for socializing. The staff is extremely hospitable and helpful and one night some of the guets and staff organized a big group dinner. Everyone chipped in to help cook and gave a few euros and then sat on the big deck eating and talking as night fell over Rethymno. Location is excellent also. Rethymno is a charming town with lots to see and do and is excellent to simply wander around. Hostel is 10 minute walk from main bus terminal. Love the solar heated showers and clean, pine wood dorms.

Room Tip: If you feel like sleeping outside, there is a wonderful outdoor deck with bunks! You're pretty m...
