My husband and I booked a last minute trip to the Bio hotel apartments.
This hotel is located in walking distance to the centre of old Rethymnon (+/-750 meter), is very close to the beach (50 m) and has a pool .
The hotel is very child-friendly: they have special children's stools at the restaurant and an enclosed children's playground next to the restaurant.

The staff is wonderfull: every member is friendly and helpfull. We especially appreciated the efficiency and friendlyness of the personnel at the restaurant.

We had a studio for 2 people, which consisted of a hall with closet, a bathroom with shower and toilet, a kitchenette with 2 cookingplates, a microwave, and a medium size refrigerator, a table + 2 chairs and a sofabed, a small bureau + satellite tv, 2 single beds put together, and a small balcony with a table and 2 chairs. The AC. worked very well.

Our studio was on the 4th floor with streetview, but we didn't hear any streetnoice, because the terrace door has double glazing. When our neighbours took a shower in the morning the plumming made a strange noice, but nothing too disturbing.
The bedsheets and towels were changed every day.

The breakfast buffet was good, with plenty of choice, but the dinnerbuffets were mediocre.
The cold salads were OK, but quality of the warm dishes was so and so, and they were often luke-warm and a little bit greasy. The souvlaki (pork satés) on the Greek evening consisted of pieces of pork meat with lots of fat on them and they were nearly cold.
We don't want to complain however: at the price we payed, we didn't expect a gourmet experience, and we had a great time in the hotel.
The Greek evening on monday was fun, with an excellent bouzouki player and a traditional dance group.

To see the sights around Rethymnon you can either join the tours provided by the touragents located in an office in the basement of the hotel, take public transport (bus), or rent a car, as we did. There are several rental agencies close by the hotel.
The roads in Crete are good, the signs are in Greek and Latin , so you're able to find your way. Mind the Cretan drivers though, as they have a driving style of their own.

Room Tip: Streetside rooms have eveningsun on the terrace

You realy must meet these people, they are real Cretans and so friendly. If you are lucky try to be at one of their food parties by the pool

Room Tip: say you are friend of George, hes the owner ;-)

Having read the reviews describing the hotel as good but not really worth its 4 star rating, my expectations weren't high. However, other than the mediocre food, I thought the place lovely. Not a particularly fancy hotel but clean, modern, very close to the beach and a nice strolling distance to the charming old town. Plus children friendly with an enclosed playground a children's pool. I'd go back :)

I agree with most of the reviews. Hotel is clean and rooms are okey, but to be very honest there are some important issues that are not even average. First of all, as this hotel premises are quite good I cant understand why they have completely forgotten food quality. We joined the buffet dinner first night and fortunately did so. Never again. Food was cold, souvlakis that supposed to be grilled and deligious where just left overs full of grease and joints. Our family of fice tried all, but we all left most of the food uneaten as it was uneatable. We thought that maybe it was a bad day so we decided to try once more. The same. Since that, anything that had to do with food at BIO was not for us.

Bar personnel was absolutely awesome. Truly friendly and willing to do what ever you desire. The time wasnt right for a holiday at Crete, but this doesnt have anything to do with this hotel. Its nice, clean and have very friendly personnel, but dont be fooled by the food.

As we have traveled all over the world, we need to stress that 4 star rating doesnt mean same in different part of the world. Compared to Asia, Dubai or USA this 4 star hotel is not more than 3 star. Lets be honest, if you compare any 4 star hotel in Scandinavia, this is not even close. It lack too much consistency, food quality and basic services.

In general, its much better than most of Crete's 4 star hotels, but again this is another story. There's just something missing here why I wouldnt rate it as high as its rated.

We spend 2 nights at this hotel, situated 50 meters far from the large beach of Rethymnon. We got a 2 space room, one space with double bed and the other with single beds, mini kithen with fridge and a dinning table. The Bathroom was spacious and the breakfast buffet offered a certain variety. The swimming pool view gives to the building, which is not so ideal. Different shows presented every night by the pool. The lunch buffet is offered at a very reasonal price but it's realy basic. Have a look first before including it to your booking package. Free wirless internet is a plus for Cretan Hotels that usually charge the conection. Parking may be hard during August.

If you want to explore the City of Rethymnon, or even spend a week, this hotel may suite you.
