I have just come back from a week at Sentido Pearl Beach with my partner and his two daughters. We booked All Inclusive and I would recommend this as the food was great. We arrived at the hotel late at night and had a lovely welcome from the reception staff, who even prepared some food for us as we'd missed the evening meal.
As we were staying out of season (end of march/beginning of April), most of the bars and restaurants near the hotel were closed but this didn't matter as the hotel had everything we needed. The weather was great too.
The hotel is clean, the staff are friendly and they have some form of entertainment on in the main hotel reception area every evening.
When we got to Heraklion Airport, we had pre-booked a hire car and I would recommend this if you are confident enough to drive, it's just over an hour by car. The roads aren't very well signposted though, so make sure you don't miss the turn off! We found this the cheapest and most convenient way to travel to and from the airport.
The hotel is right on the beach, which is a bit shingly but gets sandier if you walk further down.
The rooms are basic, but comfortable enough. If you don't want a basic room book the Sentido Aegean Pearl instead as they are basically the same hotel just upgraded rooms - they share all the same facilities.
There is also the wellness centre downstairs in the hotel. They have an indoor pool, jacuzzi, gym, sauna etc. So if you get a day where the weather isn't great you can still enjoy yourself inside the hotel.
We had a great time, with the weather and food being great we all enjoyed ourselves.

Room Tip: Corner rooms have 2 windows and a better view.

We went to the Pearl beach hotel for two weeks in September, we arrived late at night but we treated well on arrival given hot cloths and cooling drinks to refresh us, we were also given a snack as we had missed the evening meal. However we were not very impressed with the room we were allocated, it was on the ground floor near the restaurant,it was dark with a small window, the bathroom was quite roomy but the shower was in desperate need of a good clean the grouting between the shower tiles was dirty and mouldy. The following morning we complained to the receptionist she told us to come back later in the morning when a manager would be available to sort out an alternative room. We were later shown an alternative room on a higher floor which was clean and bright that we were happy with although the shower was very small. The beds and the pillows at the hotel are very hard but the staff will provide you with foam toppers if you request them. The staff are very helpful and polite. The food is very good there is always a good selection with plenty of variation. The hotel is in a good location right opposite the beach, with plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. I would advise having beach shoes as there are a lot of pebbles for 5- 10 metres into the water. We found the walk into Rethymnon town manageable There are limited sun beds in a sunny situation around the hotel pool but it is usually possible to get a sun bed because of the rule about not leaving towels on them before 9.00 am which I think is a good idea! The hotel provides towels which you can change three times a week. The air con worked well, we had a fridge and safe in our room free of charge. We enjoyed our stay at the Pearl Beach, the hotel was reasonably quiet at night and the facilities were good.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on higher level

We went to Pearl Beach for two weeks 24th july for two weeks AI, this is the most lovely hotel, staff outstanding couldn't do enough to help we didn't like our first room (I like a sea view) and within 20 mins a new perfect room was sought out for us. Food brilliant clean hotel/rooms just over from the beach and not far from the main town a lovely walk if you can stand the heat!
In fact it was so good we've booked to go back in 2013!

Room Tip: think all the rooms are good it's in a good location

the pearl beach hotel is a good clean hotel, our rooms were cleaned regularly and the staff especially at the bar were very freindly and glad to be of service.the all inclusive option does get a bit repetative after 4/5 days or so but so do most all inclusive holidays but was decent overall.be aware my wife is a vegetarian and she thought there could have been more choices and had to opt for salad and breads most nights as the cheeses were not vegetarian either.i'd say 90% of the guests are russian or german but all were freindly.one or two silly rules like if one wants to go down and get a sun bed before 0900 you have to stay on it till after 0900 or you're towel will be removed,i'm not one of them who do that normally but if you did want a sun bed going down after 09.30 would mean they was pretty much all taken.the other option is to staff at the agean pearl which is interlinked with it.the only difference i could see was the rooms and reception area was more modern, the all inclusive option looked very similar to pearl beach.the entertainment at night was for both hotels and i though it had more atmosphere over the pearlbeach area although we all mingled.overall a good hotel, not one for young people or anyone wanting a place more livlier

Room Tip: ask for sea view room

The Pearl Beach hotel has a good location at the end of a strip of hotels. It is right opposite the beach. It is a 5 minute taxi journey (€5 each way) to Rethymnon town. It is cheaper to buy bus tickets from the hotel at €1 each way per person. We didn't feel it was walkable to town (about 1 mile) especially with the weather in August.

We were given a drink and brief intro/welcome on arrival. However, the room we were given was tiny, overlooking a disused building on a side road, and not what our tour operator had promised so we immediately went to reception to complain. They told us they were fully booked and 'maybe' they could move us in 2 days time. Not impressed. After 2 days we were able to move and the subsequent room was good. The air con worked, fridge was cold (although water leaked everywhere), shower was good. Some rooms have a free safe, others you have to pay for (€8). The beds are twin beds and are very hard. The hotel can supply a foam cover if requested. All rooms have a balcony/terrace. The room was cleaned daily, but some stuff wasn't cleared from the previous guests, which wasn't good.

It is worth noting that the Pearl Beach is in the same grounds as its sister hotel the Aegean Pearl - which is a nicer (Greek) 5*. Some facilities are shared, but there are separate pools. We used the loungers around the Aegean's pool until busted - the hotel has staff checking at which hotel you are staying and will ask you to move if you aren't by the correct pool! They will also move towels if no-one returns to their lounger after 2 hours. The Pearl's pool is OK, but very crowded and the sun doesn't hit the loungers until the afternoon. If you are staying at the Pearl and want to use the loungers on the beach you will need to pay (free for guests at the Aegean). The hotel is set in nice grounds, lots of flowers and herbs growing. There are also smaller pools dotted around so it's worth exporing the hotel grounds a bit.

The breakfast buffet had a fairly good choice but it was always very crowded and not a particularly enjoyable experience (the Aegean's is much nicer). There is also a dinner buffet for €10 pp but we didn't try this. The hotel puts on entertainment and yoga etc. most days.

The other guests are mostly french/german/scandi/east european. A lot of couples, but quite a few families with young kids.

I'd recommend the Aegean Pearl over the Pearl Beach if you can afford it, it'll just make the holiday that much more enjoyable! That said, if you have a standard room, then the Pearl Beach is a good choice too.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms in the 600 block. Rooms in the 100 block were good. Hardly any sea view rooms.

A cool towel and an orange juice, as a wellcome, gives the moto of the whole holiday in pearl beach. Expert staff, fresh food, well organised timetable, give to a visitor from the assurance that will be treated as a guest and as a customer. The pool and the scent of the gardens during the night are the concluding photo of our perfect family vacation.
