My husband and I booked this holiday in October, for a week for our honeymoon.

First Impressions: We were actually a bit worried when we were dropping people off at their other hotels as the town looked very rugged and not like you would find this hotel in the area. However we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The hotel is directly across the road from a large sandy beach and it relatively attractive from the outside.

Reception: Our first encounter with reception was fine, we were checked in easily and the porter bought our cases up as they had instructed. Further encounters were not so good and we found one of the male receptionists (I cannot be certain of his name but he was dark haired and wore glasses) very rude. We had to visit reception twice for queries during out stay and both directed at him, he did not stop to listen to your question, but both times carried on what he was doing and then asked us to repeat ourselves as he had obviously not been listening.

Rooms: We had requested the honeymoon suite or a double room through our travel agent, alas we were not granted this, and were in a standard twin. Even with this being the case, the room was immaculately clean, had a large balcony overlooking the pool and with a sea view, lots of storage space, *FREE SAFE*, and the beds were very comfortable. We were very happy to see that we had been provided with robes, slippers, beach towels, and were also met with a fruit bowl, sparkling wine on ice, and a hand written note from the manager congratulating us on our wedding which I though was a fabulous personal touch.

Food...in word....WOW! We stayed all inclusive which is well worth it. Absolutely amazing selection for breakfast lunch and dinner, during our stay we had two themed nights, the Asian and Aegean nights which were both excellent. Always met with a Kalimera and a handshake from Georgos. The waiting staff are polite but some don't speak very much English so it is difficult to communicate to some what you would like. Yannis who served us the majority of the time is an asset to the hotel, very friendly and always the quickest service. The drinks were pretty limited and the local wine is like vinegar but there was generally something to suit my husband and I's various tastes.

Pools and Beach: Pools are much smaller than they look in the brochure and neither are very deep but they are clean and they do the trick. The beach is spacious, clean and a section reserved for people staying at the Porto.

Entertainment: What entertainment....DO NOT go to this hotel with hopes of having something to do every night, there was some very LIGHT entertainment in the form of singers, but that's about it, not a hotel for children at all. Also day time activities are limited to certain times of the day which is ridiculous as if you want to play table tennis, and someone gets in there before you, you can't play again until you either get in first, or until the next allocated time slot.

Location: Location is OK, it is a long drive from the airport. The old town is about a 15 minute walk away and we had a day trip which was an all dayer due to all the travel "Discover the West" which was to Suda Bay, Chania and Lake Kournas which was very interested and a great day out.

Overall: Lovely hotel, excellent food, drinks could do with expanding a little on the cocktail and wine front, beach is lovely, majority of the staff are great, entertainment could do with being upped slightly.

Room Tip: Try and get a sea view as this is worth it, also higher floors tend not to get as much of the noise...

Fantastic location is the only way to sum up this little gem of a hotel. It is right in the centre of Rethymnon bay with a lovely beach on the door step and only a short stroll along a nice prom from the old town and Venetian harbour of Rethymnon itself. Here you can shop in a maze of interesting side streets or get a caraffe of wine to sit and watch the world go by.
The hotel is clean and very cosmopolitan and it is worth paying for a sea view as it is literally a stones throw away and the view with mountains and hills is breathtaking. The water and wine , good toiletries and free safe were a nice classy touch along with the robes and slippers. There were always many more lounger beds than guests at beach and pool and a friendly attendant to fetch you a cold drink if needed.
The weather in april was fantastic especially after a northern winter that seemed as if it was going to last for ever and the spring flowers and fresh herbs everywhere made a big difference to us as previously we only visited Crete in the heat of Summer.
Food was ok but I found the dinner a little repetetive at first but it changed to a waiter served choice of three main courses while we were there which was an improvement. The breakfasts with fresh fruit, warm bread and orange juice in abundance were excellent.
don't go expecting night life the entertainment was scarce but that encouraged us to enjoy the delights of the town. The staff were great always with a smile and a kalimera and couldn't do enough to help.We enjoyed a visit to Chania and a jeep safari with Thompsons and would recommend both.
all in all a very good hotel in a lovely part of the island.

The communal areas in this hotel are quite luxurious but the room we had, although spotlessly clean, was in need of refurbishment. Lovely little touches in the room, welcome wine, good toiletries, robes/slippers etc. Very pleasant and helpful staff.
We stayed half board and found the food selection a little repetitive and quite often not hot enough. However, we always found something enjoyable to eat at mealtimes. Drinks over priced.
The free use of sunbeds on the beach (towels also provided) was excellent as this can sometimes be costly.
The area itself is very nice, just a short walk to the charming old town.
I would definitely go back to the hotel out of season if the price suited. We paid £420 each for 7 nights half board which is excellent value for money.

Stayed here for a week in April 2013, first impressions were good. Greeted with orange juice and porter delivered cases to room. We upgraded to a room with a sea view, which was not worth the extra money, as sea could only be seen from one half of balcony. Furnishings were very tired and no way 5*. Chairs on balcony had flacking varnish and very rough. Lots of extras in room though, free safe, water, small bottle of wine, water, dressing gowns, slippers, toiletries, mosquito plug ins.
We were half board, and maybe because the hotel was very quite, the buffet dinner that was served was practically the same every evening. (e.g.spaghetti bol 7 nights) Deserts never varied and it all got very boring. No fresh vegetables.
The a la carte restaurant was closed, as was the jewellery shop. Entertainment was lacking and bar closed very early.
Saying all this, the staff were all very nice, efficient but sometimes slow.
Unfortunately, the week we stayed, the weather was not good and the island was not in full swing.

A three nights experience in this wonderful hotel allows a very fair report . Location is excellent being at the same time "in town" and on the beach across the street . Yet , there are three pools inside ...Rooms are well kept .Upon your arrival mineral water and white wine bottle welcome you with the compliments of the management. The service is excellent specially at the front desk .The restaurant is a first class adventure with somptuous buffets. White and red wines are well selected . Enjoy your stay

In all my time travelling around the World, I have never experienced such a wonderful hotel, right across the board. The staff, from chambermaids to hotel management were the friendliest, most accommodating people possible. Everyone had a smile .
The food was first class and I would not hesitate in encouraging anyone to stay here.
We stayed half board, but on the first evening were invited to dine in the al a carte restaurant, the food and service was fantastic, but it didn't spoil us for the rest of our stay because the main restaurant couldn't be faulted either
