The village of Pigi is an area in obvious economic decline, with many derelict and unfinished buildings left to there own devices, to the extent that there is a large crumbling warehouse type building immediately at the side of the enclosed garden area. The directions to the villa given by the owner are ambiguous at best. The villa its self we found to be dark, with very little light coming into the front kitchen/living area, the upstairs front main bedroom being better, with the doors onto the little balcony.Although the bedding and towels were clean, the rest of the villa was not, with crumbs still under the dining table, and all surfaces and handles in the kitchen area having a greasy feel to them. Upon arrival on a Thursday afternoon we found that there was no kettle, toaster or iron as stated. We spoke to the owner next time we saw her on the Saturday and explained this. It took a little time as obviously English is not the first language, and where told that they would be supplied on the following Monday. Upon our return from an evening meal, there was a new kettle...and a toasted sandwich maker. I realized then that with the communication difficulties it was best to just leave it at that! There was only two of us, but if a larger party is going then the few cooking pots and pans available will mean that you will struggle. The pool/garden area is separated from the main building, and is fully enclosed, with access via a wooden gate/door. The pool was cleaned every morning. There is a little building containing a sink and w/c, but no fridge, again as stated. A bit disconcerting in the villa was the state of some of the wall plug sockets that came away with the plug you try to disconnect from them. This was not something new, judging by the surrounding plaster/brick work. The main problem that we had while there was the noise from the local village children. They seem to communicate by screeching at each other..and we were in the middle of it. The only time we got any peace in the pool area was when it was school time. Outside of this, we didn't get a minutes peace, even to the extent of them climbing onto an adjacent flat roof to throw stones at each other, and the gable wall to the property. After 6 days out of 12 that we had booked, we had had enough, and left, staying in a nearby hotel/studio complex at further expense, but quiet! This is a business that they are running, and it comes nowhere near to the standards one would expect, having traveled extensively in Europe and India.
