This apartment is an excellent choice for a stay at the north-western part of Crete! We booked it for our first visit to Crete, and besides the lovely Island and the good weather by the end of April it was also our home, our friendly host and the beautiful city of Rethymnon which made this trip unforgettable. The house is located directly at the sea promenade and you find everything you need - including restaurants of all kind - just a few steps away. The apartment lies on top and has 2 really large terraces, that one to the promenade with a beautiful view to the sea. It is very clean and completely equipped, we didn't miss anything. Just for people who have problems with their legs it should be mentioned that the stairs are a bit steep. All in all highly recommended!
This is a safe practical hideaway - just a door in the midst of the the sea frontshops bars & bustle, but once inside you climb to a secret retreat with a 20sq metre balcony that collects the sun all day - even in mid October! The flat is functional and we bought in coffee, breakfast & fridgable delights that meant we could have leisurely mornings, sometimes a sun bathed lunch & yet were out walking, touring or just strolling & in the evening finding a place to eat of which there are hundreds.
The booking, arrangements for getting in & checking out were always attentively responded to.
The missing star is as others say because of the v steep staircase to the balcony which kept us fit and the need for some wear & tear upgrade planned for the new season. But, it was clean, cosy and special. It is one of very few holiday lets that i would really enjoy returning to!
This was indeed a dream location. This charming well equipped home sits right in the heart of old Rethymno on Venizelou Street; the main beach, the fortezza, the restaurants, bars and cafes are all but minutes away. Situated right in the centre of town, the apartment sits on the top floor of a quiet residential building on one of the main streets adjoining the old town, well clear of any noise from traffic or crowds. The terrace really is its jewel - granting privacy, sunshine and a spectacular seafront view. Our host was most attentive and patient. We have no hesitation in recommending this lovely characterful home.
Venizelou really is a little gem of an apartment - right on the sea front on the edge of Rethymnon Old Town. The apartment is simply excellent - a good sized double bedroom, a neat bathroom with a reliable supply of hot water from the solar water heater (we never had to use the immersion heater) and a lovely lounge / kitchen area. Aircon in the bedroom and the lounge, with ceiling fans. Cooking facilities are minimal (a worktop style plug in two ring hob and a microwave) but with so many eateries on the doorstep, who needs to cook? The star of the show is the spacious balcony facing the sea (there is a second balcony at the back on the street side) - it catches the sun from dawn until dusk and boasts wonderful views by day and night. You can lounge and sunbathe or simply sit with a drink and watch the world go by.
The apartment owner and his family couldn't be more helpful and welcoming - they are simply lovely people who greet you as friends rather than paying guests.
A wide selection of restaurants, cafes and bars are within easy walking distance, including those on the waterfront around the old harbour, near the lighthouse. There are a few livelier bars which keep going until the early hours but at no point was the noise intrusive - we were never disturbed. For those who like their retail therapy, there is plenty of shopping to be had, again within easy walking distance.
The beach is a matter of a few minutes' walk away and has a huge choice of sectioned areas which are well-stocked with sun loungers and parasols - many parts of the beach are serviced by the bars across the road for drinks and snacks. For those who prefer to be active, there are jet-skis for hire on the beach and para-gliding trips from the harbour. There is also a wide range of excursions from a number of agents, including inland safari-style and boat trips.
We will definitely be going back!
We had a lovely stay at Alki's apartment. It's located in the perfect location to see all that Rethymno has to offer with ease. The main beach is only a 5/10 minute walk away and all the amazing old town restaurants are practically on your doorstep. There is also a good sized strip of restaurants/shops/bars when you come out of the apartment building but the noise doesn't travel up into the apartment.
The balcony is huge and was perfect for some pre dinner drinks and breakfast whilst watching the world go by. I would recommend that you get the air conditioning included as it gets hot and a place to cool down is very much needed. As other guests have stated the final set of stairs are very steep but it wasn't a problem for us.
All in all Rethymno was a great place to visit for a good relaxing beach holiday with dinner in amazing settings. Alki's apartment serves as a great base to enjoy it all if you're looking for a well priced apartment.
Had a great week in this spacious apartment. Super big balcony with lovely views of the Old Harbour and the Marina to sit and watch the world go by. Balconies on both sides meant we could leave both doors open and along with the ceiling fans, kept the apartment cooler. Air conditioning available, but as an extra. We didn't use it. Apartment very well equipped, great WI-FI and information about the local area already there to help you. Water. tea, coffee and milk available on arrival, Mr S' video very useful to see before arrival and many thanks for all his help whilst we were there. His parents live in the flat below so felt very safe at all times. Terrific choice of restaurants and bars all around us, but despite this, apartment very quiet and we were not disturbed by any noise at all considering how busy Rethymnon is. Spiral staircase quite steep and narrow up to the apartment, keeps you fit!. Really good sandy beach 5 minutes walk to the right. Excellent location for Hop on Hop off bus, wee train and harbour for boat trips. Bus station about 20 minutes walk.

This apartment is up a very steep set of stairs, so perhaps not suitable for all, however this is outweighed by the great views from the fabulous balcony.
