Taverna Knossos is right in the heart of the town, on the old harbour and is in the corner where the two lines of "restaurants" meet. Smaller than some of the others and certainly not as pushy, it came recommended by our hotel Casa Moazzo.
This is not a restaurant but a taverna that simply serves fresh fish, and does it extremely well. We had gilt head bream served with a large salad and bread, washed down by a half litre of local white wine. It was excellent. The place is family run, with Maria and her brother running the tables and their mother apparently doing the cooking. They make a great team. We would recommend it.
We were there in late October and whilst most of the tavernas around the harbour were open at lunch time this was one of the few that were open in the evening. It is not as cheap as some tavernas in say Heraklion, but then it is in a premium position
Go and soak up the atmosphere, enjoy the food and take in the view.
