Description: The restaurant is on the site where once stood a Venetian building which was linked to the residence on the south side through a doorway. It is believed that where the covered dining area stands was once a large storeroom and animal stable. The dining courtyard was indeed a courtyard and animal feeding area. In 2003 the chef and owner Harris Pavlakis decided to open the restaurant. The restaurant serves traditional local and greek dishes with local products and provides a friendly and romantic atmosphere. Our restaurant is certificated for Cretan Cuisine from The Greek Academy Of Taste and has participated in three contests of Traditional Cretan Cuisine in the last three years and has won twice the golden and once the silver medal.

It was second meal out on Crete. The first was great dinner at local taverna in Sfakaki. It is still amazing that how simple dishes could be presented so well and taste so delicious... But don't get fouled: it is not a taverna, it is real restaurant with according atmosphere and service. They even take credit cards! It was 5 of us, including 4 y.o. We were tired, hungry and cold after wandering around for a while. So we went for range of meat and seafood dishes. Everything was just excellent and to our surprise reasonably priced.

We visited To Pigadi two years ago and thought it was a very nice restaurant with good food so we looked forward to going there again. Unfortunately it did not meet our expectations this time!

We came to the restaurant on 1 May at about 20:30, which was a day on which many locals go out, but that cannot be an excuse, because the guest were tourists, and a big party was leaving the restaurant as we came in.

The restaurant was busy when we arrived, but we got a table. Three young girls waited the guests and they were so busy that it was stressful. Our wine and water were served. When they served our greek salad we asked if they had some bread, which is what all restaurants normally serve very quickly after you have given your order. Ups ... they had forgotten to give us that, and that was also the case for our neighbour table. The salad was fine. My husband had looked forward to getting chicken in chocolate and orange sauce, which he had read about on the restaurant's website. It was not on the menu! When the main dish was served it was served on top of our knives and forks!!! That is not ok. I had salmon with vegetables with soya and sesam. The vegetables were "swimming" in too much soya so I could not eat it. The salmon was fine.

We got the usual little dessert on the house, but ups ... again they forgot to give the raki, which was given to other guests.

We are sorry but this was our worst dinner in Rethymnon during our 10 days there. The restaurant is so nice, so it is really a pity that the waitresses were so busy that they forgot things and didn't have time to the serve properly.

One of the attractions of To Pigadi is the courtyard setting in the Old Town, which sets the atmosphere for the meal. The Cretan dishes are excellent, the service efficient and friendly and the prices are great value. The Kleftiko was delicious. What more could you want?

What a lovely little place. Sat outdoors and enjoyed a really delicious lunch. Beautiful food and the best white house wine we tasted all week. Liked this restaurant so much we booked to go back another night.

We had a lovely evening in this busy, well run restaurant. Excellent, friendly service, with good recommendations from the knowledgeable staff, make this a must for a night in the old town. It's easy to see why this place is so popular, and it certainly beats it's more illustrious neighbour for quality on all levels.
