Villa Svega has the charm of old stones and history that we love, The garden and pool wonderful, the inside of the house cool and calm. The owners are very nice and helpful and close by if needed. The situation is perfect for us, not far from facilities, visits and the beach.
We had a very nice stay in this beautiful villa! The villa is well maintained and clean. The building is an old oil mill, which has been lovingly restored by the owner. For us, the location was perfect: You can reach many beautiful (and children friendly) beaches in around 10 minutes by car. In the same time you can drive to Rethymnon. So you are close to the "hotspots" but enjoy the calm of a cretan village. In the village itself you have all you need: two little supermarkets, a very good tavern and a coffee/burger bar.
The garden with the pool is just amazing! There are growing bananas, mangoes and bergamots, as well as many herbs! Unfortunately nothing was already ripe - but nevertheless it was nice to see for our children. In the garden you can find at every time of the day a nice, shady place to enjoy. Since it was May, the pool was a little cold for the children (for us it was ok). But we had taken precautions and brought neoprene suits from home - with them it was no problem.
The owner of the villa (Mr. Manolis) lives next door and takes care of the pool and garden at every morning. He came very early (around 5.30/6.00am), so we never met him and therefor always had the feeling to be alone there. Mr. Manolis attaches great importance to respecting the privacy of its guests - but he is alleys there, when you need any kind of help. His wife bakes delicious cake, which we were allowed to enjoy three times during our holidays. Every 5 days the whole villa was cleaned completely, which spared us many discussions within the family ;-)
