We didn´t expect much when we first arrived but we were pleasantly surprised. THe room was very clean, quiet and pretty comfortable for 3- 4 days. We loved being so near the sea. THe owner was very helpful.

Mythos beach hotel is a very nice place. Big rooms, well equipped kitchen, clean swimming pool. To the beach you have 20 m. Welcome drink in bar and welcome bottle of home made Raki. I appreciate that! Nice, quiet neighberhood.

We used this place as a stopover for Chania airport on the first and last nights of our holiday (roughly 40-minute drive), and as a family with 2 older children the space the rooms gave us was ideal.

The rooms are fairly simple and not particularly romantic, but spacious and comfortable enough. I actually slept better in this bed than I did in the bed I had for a fortnight in our much more expensive villa.

The staff are great. Andreas was just so friendly and helpful, and we found the team in the bar and the restaurant to be excellent as well - big smiles on their faces, couldn't do enough for us.

Location-wise, it is along a quiet, pretty stretch of beach with several places to eat and easy drives into Chania and also the west coast beaches.

The food in the restaurant was some of the best we had all holiday. Don't miss the sea bass and sea bream.

The pool is big, clean and never got too busy.

All in all, great value for clean and spacious (if simple) rooms with great service.

Room tip: For the extra 15 Euros, for the extra space the mezzanine room gave us on our last night was worth it

Our second stop on a tour of western Crete. Received a very warm welcome from Andreas. Rooms were not ready when we arrived just before 12 Noon, but we were able to leave our bags and come back a few hours later to collect the keys. Complimentary Raki provided in the rooms - just a shame we don't drink it!

2 x one bed apartments on same level as reception, one with a sea view. Both kitchens were huge for Greece with a kettle, coffee maker and sandwich toaster. Plenty of cutlery and crockery including mugs - essential for that morning brew! The pool was really nice and refreshing, although didn't like the sun beds being on the grass or the constant influx of wasps on the edge of the deep end of the pool - which I appreciate is just nature.

The downsides came in relation to bedding not fitting properly, even though the beds themselves were really comfortable. There was also a crack in the corner of one of the balconies which looked quite dangerous. The towel changes could have been more frequent. Also be aware there is no cleaning on a Sundays (notice behind reception) so the bins do not get emptied.

Would we return, not sure! We found Maleme a bit "soulless" and with little or no atmosphere even in the height of the season.
