Mike Hotel & Apartments
Ranked #1 of 15 Hotels in Maleme

Reviewed July 7, 2009

My friend and I read the reviews for Mikes apartments and felt assured that the we were staying in one of the best places in Maleme.

Whilst the hotel is well looked after the location is a 40min bus ride to the main town, which means additional time and money is needed to visit the beautiful harbour and wonderful restaurants in the main town. The town also offers boat rides around the island, that are well worth investing in.

In addition the beach, that is very close to the apartments is a pebbly beach, which was not to my taste, but may not be a problem from others. A sandy beach can be found a 10min bus drive away.

The Representative responsible for Mike's Hotel and Apartments Melissa Davies is incredibly rude, provided incorrect information that could have had lead to devastating consequences and when challenged was dismissive and dishonest. I was so upset by her treatment of my friend and I, I felt compelled to write to the company to complain about her. In addition to this the excursions offered in the welcome meeting (an oxymoron!) are so over priced it's well worth you doing a bit of research before you get out there, or hiring a car, as it works out so much cheaper. I would also have a map on hand as Melissa's guide is Terrible, I had the pleasure of reading this document that Melissa claimed to have been working on for the last 7 years, and it was poor. I think her ego had taken control when writing this document, she is no Bill Bryson!

For this reason I would not recommend staying in the hotel or apartments. Which is a shame, because it is a nice clean hotel. However, Melissa Davies totally spoiled my holiday.

Stayed here for a week in June. it is by far the best apartment we have stayed in in Crete in over a dozen years. Well equipped, spacious, clean, next to sea, good pool and bar. There was nothing about the hotel itself to complain about. The hotel next door was noisy at times, but not late into the night. I'd go back there anytime. The web site gives a true picture of the place.

We stayed in the hotel itself and loved it. The family who run this hotel are just lovely; some of the nicest people you're ever likely to meet. The rooms are cleaned daily, and although they’re a little on the small side there is sufficient space and everything you might need.

All of the dishes served in the restaurant are delicious, home-cooked, authentic Greek food made by the mum of the family. She’s an excellent cook. Breakfast was a hearty selection of cereals, toast, fresh bread, cheese ham, boiled eggs, juice, tea, coffee, cake and biscuits! It was a great and varied selection.

The swimming pool was just a short walk down the path, with a bar serving drinks and light lunches. There is also internet access too, if you need to use it. The pool, along with the rest of the hotel, has a relaxed and stress-free atmosphere. I like that there was a nice balance of staff being chatty and friendly but also that we were left to relax and read when necessary.

I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this place to anyone. I noticed while we were there that they seemed to get a lot of repeat customers, which doesn’t surprise me in the slightest!

Maleme was a quiet little resort with not much happening, which is perfect if you're after a quiet, relaxing trip. Having said that a frequent bus service runs right outside the hotel into larger, busier resorts and Chania. It's worth spending an afternoon/evening mooching about Chania and discovering the backstreet gems.

A friend and I booked a last minute trip with no accommodation specified. When the much delayed flight landed in Chania airport we were informed that we are going to a place called Mikes in Maleme we had no idea what to expect. The bus ride seemed very long and the place didn´t look too spectacular when we finally arrived. This because we didn´t see how close it was to the beach, and how nice of a town Maleme is. The rooms were OK too, not luxury of any kind but it´s not supposed to be, just nice and clean, OK size reasonably comfortable beds etc.
The walk to the beach was around 5 mins, and the beach itself great, not crowded at all even though it was peak season as there is a limited number of places to stay in Maleme, and excellent food both at Mike´s (one of the best!) and at many of the other restaurants around town. Maleme is small, quiet and nice but if that´s not enough for you, there are buses and taxis available that take you to the more lively towns of Agia Marina and Platanias in no time.
